But...but...but....nobody is talking about the $2 billion that his favorite daughter Ivanka and her Omen husband Jared have. Couldn't they easily lend/give some to Big Daddy?

I just saw a great meme: Jared says to Ivanka: "Your dad wants to borrow $364 million from us." And Ivanka replies, "Who?"

Thank you for this reminder. So much is not addressed or only receives a glancing word in news media. We are in very difficult and painful times that are frightening. The graft and greed of DJT and his children are beyond comprehension and why folks with a platform allow barely if at all speak of it. No one talks about how Sinclair owns most of the local tv news and how it has affected honest coverage.Local media news, local print news is nearly nonexistent therefore when NBC, MSNBC, PBS, or CNN do what aboutism it hugely magnifies DJT's messages. I am disabled - therefore homebound and have much time to view various news programs that allegedlly address local, state, federal news as well as world news. I have plenty of time to reflect on the bias and superficial arguments presented. It is appalling how often news shows bring in so many panelists to discuss one issue and therefore never get below the surface to go into depth coverage of what the true issues are and how they impact our lives. I am appalled at how often DJT is mentioned without critical thought being applied to his message comapared to hearing anything about POTUS other than handwringing or pointing out gaffes is not only demoralizing it is dangerous. How many voices are out there speaking truth? Applying critical thought to policy, lies, graft and greed?

Thank you for your thoughtful post. The long and the short of it is this, America is for all intents and purposes an oligarchy. Every news outlet is owned by corporations who control the message. Don't listen to our media. Check out some British media and AL Jazeera. Also the Irish press is very good and pretty fair despite Ireland's historic love of America. Perhaps Mary's subscribers on here have other reliable recommendations for objective reporting.

Sorry DB. There's no such thing as non-biased news organizations, research or any other act of communicating. We ALL bring bias to our endeavours.

Although I agree with you in general, I definitely think there are many journalists capable of delivering a truthful & balanced story 99% of the time. And I'm adding here that in today's world, use of good ol' common sense would go a long way to finding the TRUTH. When I see outlets trying to do the "equivalency" thing between Trump & Biden, it's just too much. Come on, now! There is simply NOTHING equal about these two candidates on ANY topic! Let's use our common sense on that one, PLEASE!

I enjoy listening to the Canadian Broadcasting Company. When I was in MN, we got it through the local Public Radio station there. So fun--the population in Canada is so much smaller, and news outlets fewer, so there were frequent interviews with the Prime Minister, all quite folksy. Made me quite envious of their seemingly somewhat less complicated system of government. At least, it was more civilized.

It wouldn't take much to appear more civilized, especially when we have to deal with the likes of DJT and Margie Taylor Greene.

(BTW, I finally managed to “post” on my blog!!! Minor miracle, but it happened accidentally--I don’t expect to be sainted, or anything, esp, being Protestant! So few Protestants have been sainted....something likely no one will look into further, even though I’m convinced miracles can be accomplished by the least among us!

Norah -- I'm wondering why there has been no mention of Ivanka? Did she break down and squeal on her Daddy so she and Jared could "get off" without any penalties? I would also like to know why Jared was given that $2 billion by the Saudis. Did he discover a magic file to sell to the Saudis among Donald's cache of them at Mar-a-Lago ?

Expand full comment

The question of the $2B is, oddly, very rarely discussed, even among people who should be extremely interested in it, or by commentators or investigators. I thought it could pertain to selling a few of the classified documents, but who knows.

Among other middle-east countries (Dubai, anyone?) Saudi is spending money like water, building space age loony cities (the Line) that will soon crumble or drown when the oceans rise..

Or maybe it's about armaments...who knows. Somebody does, of course.

Expand full comment

Didn’t he sell the prince classified information on his enemies which he quickly rounded up?

Expand full comment

It's not just $2 billion. There is also an annual "administration" fee of $25 million. (I guess office supplies have been hit hard by inflation!)

Expand full comment

Look at the timelines.

Expand full comment

Sure they can. The question is, will they? And did the $2billion go to Jared's personal account or business account. If the latter, part of the order is that no business can provide him with bailout money. So, if the $$$$ went into Jared's business, Whatshisname is screwed.

Expand full comment

That’s a relief. I was hoping he wouldn’t “just go to Jared!”

Expand full comment

That $2 billion is probably like the trumpster's mostly sham. Also, how much is tied up in real estate? I doubt they have more than 200 million in cash, if that.

Expand full comment

I agree, like why would they? It's illogical.

Same question….the family members who indecently, unethically, and corruptly ended up with $640M in office, then the $Billions Jared got for probable treasonous activities you’d think would say, “No worries, Dad!”

Expand full comment

He didn't use any of it to pay Ivanka's legal fees. I seriously doubt that he would let big daddy borrow one red cent.

Expand full comment

Norah, they don’t “have” that $2 billion, which has been estimated to have grown to $4 billion by now - Jared was, for reasons still obscure as he had no relevant experience, entrusted with investing that amount for the Saudi Royal family. So I don’t think it’s gonna be a source of fiscal rescue for lil Donald. MBS is NOT a guy you wanna embezzle from, don’t you agree?

Expand full comment

So would Jared do this for them without some sort of monetary kick-back? If it's already doubled, (you mean he DOES know how to invest?) he must have a few extra pennies jingling in his pocket. After all, he's a Made Man for at least two Capos.

Expand full comment

It's for an investment fund. He's supposed to make money on it. Could he lend it to his Dad? I doubt it, bit if he could, it would look very sketchy.

Expand full comment

So the money isn't his at all? They give him money to invest for them because he is a stock market wiz kid? (What???) And he gets maybe a small percentage if there are any gains? I wonder if this investing junket could be tracked to see how he's doing.

Expand full comment

The powers that be in Saudi Arabia advised against giving Jared the $2B because he had no track record of accomplishing, well, anything. But they were overruled by the same guy who ordered the killing (and subsequent chopping up) of American citizen, Jamal Khashoggi. Jared kissed the ring, got the $2B + a $25 million ANNUAL administration fee.

Weirdly, Jared can't afford to replace his cell phone, which mysteriously malfunctions, automatically blocking calls from his father-in-law. Go figure.

Yes, it’s true. I am most definitely a real human being--a somewhat bedraggled one at present. I Willingly went on a birding outing in Austin, TX, today, although, with the windchill factor, 41 F was quite cold even though I dressed almost as I would for the Arctic. We walked up and down a canyon even though I have a type of muscle enzyme deficiency such that my “ fast twitch” skeletal muscles only produce 2% of what is normal, & it most affects muscles I need for standing and walking.

It just annoys me, & sometimes I do things like this, because I don’t want to stop being active. Maybe stupid--but while it was hard, & I’ll pay for it the next several days, it was just so much fun! I heard a Bewick wren, for the first time--and so many times, I think I’ll be able to recognize it again. I saw a Pine Siskin for the first time! Maybe you have to be a birder to be thrilled by this--but it was time well spent! I would do it again...but NOT tomorrow! It Wii take time to recover from this....What I have is actually fairly common, but for the last 20 years or so, it’s been unrecognized, because an influential physician believed it wasn’t a real disease, because some people test positive but don’t have symptoms. Completely specious reasoning, of course....

AMP deaminase deficiency, a lack of that one enzyme in the process of “ oxidative phosphorylation”--the set of reactions which turns oxygen into ATP. It’s inherited, & only affects “fast twitch” skeletal muscles. Don’t know what “ turns it on” but it didn’t cause me significant problems my first 50 years, although, I was always slow, compared to other people, walking, swimming, & etc. I mention this as physicians aren’t too aware of this, and many people surely have it without realizing it.

Expanding on what Mauimom posted: There was some conversation on MSNBC that Trump could be bailed out by some of his overseas friends, whether it is the Saudis or others. They could "gift" him with a lot of money simply because they want to curry favor with him, or they could buy some of his properties at ridiculously inflated prices, as they've done before. This worries me, even if for no other reason than Trump IS pretty creative in how he raises money and manipulates the system. And to the Saudis in particular, half a billion or so is chump change.

There’s truth in that. An acquaintance of mine once told me he was a boy when his father was doing business with the Saudis at the Royal Palace. He enjoyed playing with the rocks around the palm trees, which, it seems, were actually diamonds. As he was admiring them, he was given a bag of them.

Years later, he took one in to a jeweler, to see whether he could have it made into a piece of jewelry. It was large enough and of sufficient quality, the jeweler was worried about how he came to possess such a diamond...the diamond trade being rather highly controlled.(So, I have to imagine Saudi money is measured in billions.) The issue is--what can Trump, under indictment for so many crimes, it’s hard to keep track of all the cases, not to mention the specific charges--promise to do for the Saudis; I mean, what’s the chance he’ll actually be elected again? Anyone subscribed, hopes zero, but unfortunately, it’s not a zero probability.

What’s the story with RFK, Jr? Is he really as nuts as it appears? What a sad state of affairs. I haven’t yet gotten over Ralph Nader’s rationale for being the spoiler for Gore....I really didn’t expect he would turn out to be so self-serving & in such a destructive way....Imagine, how much better off our global climate might have been, if it had been addressed in a timely manner, as Gore surely would have done his best to do....

SO, elections DO have significant real life consequences! Would Russia have invaded Ukraine if Hillary Clinton had been elected President, instead of Putin’s best buddy, Donald???
