I've read criticism of the Correspondents Dinner for many years before Trump came along. The better journalists realized that it wasn't good to make journalists become "friends" of those in power. So Trump finally proved it. Hopefully there won't ever be another one of these events.

Trump himself is stumbling toward extinction, thrashing like a clueless relic desperate to drag future generations down with him. Every time he opens his mouth, it’s a storm of ignorance, especially on climate change a man swinging wildly at a world he doesn’t understand. His bluster is nothing but noise, his rage a pathetic shield for the fact that he’s out of his depth and out of time.
Thank you so much for bringing the dinner out into the open again. I didn't watch it at all, but it sounds just like I would have been cringing the whole time. Are people afraid they'll be blackballed if they walk out? That's why everyone should walk out.
Actually, the whole idea of representation has failed.
MSM were supposed to represent the citizens by scrutinizing the powerful. Congress was supposed to represent the people as a referee between conflicting interests. The SC was supposed to represent the nation's sense of justice. And the whole regime's cabinet, from Hegseth to Patel or Kennedy, is a bunch of loonies out of their depth, but they are allegedly exerting their power in the name of the people.
I don't know how to reform or replace representation, but the current formula has been hollowed to death.
By the way, there's no way that Cronkite didn't get William Paley's approval before declaring the Vietnam War as unwinnable. CBS didn't work that way after Murrow died (the last really trustworthy CBS reporter). Paley was an utter scumbag who would not have allowed anyone to break ranks - in other words, Paley must have finally decided himself that the war was unwinnable and it wasn't worth supporting the administration for it anymore.
Mary, I don't want any Social Media staff violating my Civil Rights and Constitutional Rights while I'm speaking with Attorneys and fighting for my family and I lives when love ones was killed. Especially while they live their lives and blah blah blah after interrupting others lives deviously. I don't need anyone or anything in my life that is not moving me forward. The Labor Commissioner Department in Oakland, CA. has not followed the guidelines enforcing retaliation and there is not any excuse for the delays. The San Francisco, CA. Commissioner On Judicial Performance because of very devious instigators has allowed court violations and misconduct after court violations and misconduct. I don't like very troubled people to steal what's mines and hold my money up then ask me about where I'm going to be. That sounds like people that should be forced to go to another Country for helping with the serious crimes and delays. Don't ask me any questions of my identity while violating my identity. What do I look like. The ones involved should not just be forced out the Country for these serious crimes but held up for years apart from their families. No sympathy and no forgiveness for their serious crimes. Thanks for sharing.

I'm disgusted by the reporters on AF1 who stood there like bumps on a log while Trump called a reporter "Piggy" and didn't start saying, in unison, "Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it." So what if they were thrown off the plane or banned from the WH? Reporters should already understand how much he cares about them. He used them as missile-bait while he hid in the food cart. Why even keep covering him? He posts everything he's doing on his "truth social," anyway, and talks like a dimwit every time a microphone is shoved in his face.
Stop covering him. Stop legitimizing each daily absurdity.
Bless you both for revealing the reality of modern Journalism. Especially White House style! I raised my kids to work hard and learn, to make it in the capitalist system. We are white and I have seen them capitulate to the Grand Trump Bandwagon, that cult like following; financed by big business. I have learned several hard lessons in my extended life, gradually waking up to what minorities face in prosperous America and how life is for the "Other Half". The other half aren't making it with Donald Trump and it is being made unbelievably worse by his proud and intentional cruelty! And Donald is being backed by the full weight of the powerful, privileged, wealthy. My kids ignore me politely now, the old man is changing into a LIB. My daughter dismissed my warnings about Trump, saying I have "TDS", a MAGA acronym used to dismiss any one who tries to warn them about this future we are headed for!
Looking back over the days when they were kids and before, I watched us go through Hitler, Korea, Viet Nam and the race riots and now, the "Insurrection" being led by a well financed madman. And there awaits J.D. Vance, for his chance. These people are cruel beyond measure and brave reporting is our only peaceful way out. The alternative might well be civil war.
Don’t Americans understand that the foundations of any functioning democracy depends upon the free and fair elections that supports it? Can’t you see that one of the main focuses, if not the main focus, of Mr. Trump’s entire tenure as America’s president has been to subvert and discredit those free and fair elections even when he wins them…? Why? Why? WHY…?
Why would a sitting president call into question the very elections that just handed him the American presidency not just once but twice…? WHY ? I’ll tell you why since it seems that you’re unable to figure it out for yourselves. Because what could never happen in America has happened…! America doesn’t seem capable of grasping this reality unless someone else spells it out for you!

No matter what the outcome of America’s next elections this 21st century America will never be trusted to honour its commitments again. At least not for more than 4 years at a time…? I wonder if Americans really understand what’s changed and how drastic that change is?
