The American justice system has repeatedly broken my spirit over the last few weeks. This news is a welcome tonic. Age and race have nothing to do with it -- I know -- but as a 69-year-old Black woman, I'm experiencing a deep exhilarating joy watching a 70-something judge and a Black woman stay the course and succeed.

Democrazy's avatar

Wouldn't it be the pinnacle of karma if a middle age, black, powerful, female ended up being the one who denuded him?

Alex Mercedes's avatar

Indeed. On a significant side note: I would count it as a sweet advance and an important example for America -- with our tortured racial history -- to see what a Black woman and a white man working together can accomplish.

D4N's avatar

While I still have some juice in my tank, and if I can be so bold as to remark with candor, which is how I roll, I'd love to make a comment or so in your direction - and hope to not offend you - in any way.

Anna Vinson's avatar

Is this meant for me?

Anna

D4N's avatar

Hi Anna. No, it wasn't directed to you. I was directed at Alex Mercedes. The comments made by Alex kinda' pulled at me and I wanted to share those thoughts with whoever that is.

Get Out! Stay Out! 2024's avatar

I think we may be thinking alike here. And I agree the comment deserves some candor with regard to the last sentence. Insistence on including both races and genders somewhat takes away from the accomplishment of the woman in this instance. This has been part of the problem over the years. I also wish not to offend.

Peter's avatar

Emasculated would be a better term for what Tish James is about to do to Donald Dump.

Judie Brophy's avatar

Both terms apply, but denuded might be the most significant loss for him. He always thinks he can spin the story of emasculation to inject the possibility that it wasn’t what it looked like. When denuded, there’s no place to hide truth. For someone like him, that’s the worst. Now everyone knows he’s broke.

Romelle Samantha Smith's avatar

Would that be the same as castrated?

David Holzman's avatar

not physically, but emotionally.

Paula Dean's avatar

EXACTLY, PETER! After all, what is tRump tower if not the phallic symbol that he built in order to compensate for being dickless?

Bridget Collins's avatar

She can't take what he hasn't got.

She'll have to settle for the real estate.

😁

Pam Solomon's avatar

May it be so! 🙏🏻🤩

Rita Caron's avatar

It would be so sweet.

Maureen Mannion's avatar

I can imagine how exhilarating it must be for you to see Letitia James holding DT to account. That's something Noone else on his life has been able to do.

Recently I watched a documentary about the Central Park attack of a white woman back when, can't remember the year. There was Donald on there bellowing about his absolute knowledge that the young black kids were the perpetrators. The fact of their blackness was enough for him to convict them.

Now, here's KARMA in action for dear old Donald. A powerful black woman holding him to account for some of the destruction he created in this lifetime.

VERONICA ROACH's avatar

We are all rooting for them to finally force trump into the place he really deserves - have fun Alex enjoying the sweet picture of real justice happening where it should !!!

Barbara A. Tidyman's avatar

Donald has repeatedly thumbed his nose at the courts and continues to make remarks about E..Jean. What ever happened to CONTEMPT OF COURT and the threat of going to jail? As long as he runs loose we all lose.

Why can't E.Jean's brilliant lawyer sue because Trump is still dissing E.Jean and insist that he be jailed for contempt of court?

Alex Mercedes's avatar

The last I heard Kaplan and Carroll had not ruled out a third suit.

Nancy P's avatar

Good

3rd suit sounds like a great idea

Karen Stock's avatar

Shouldn’t his bail be revoked and him thrown in jail for breaking his bond? Someone please explain to me why this isn’t happening? Why does he get to continue his verbal assault of Ms. Carroll? Would anyone else be allowed to publicly scoff at our Courts and still be able to run for President?

Colleen's avatar

I completely agree. If he can’t make bond he should be in jail. I have an uneasy feeling that he will escape justice and escape Ms. James because our justice system has been weakened and corrupted by this miserable man.

Nancy P's avatar

Agree. Go after the creep.

D4N's avatar

On the brighter side of your thought, there's 'this' old saw to consider - tuck it in your cheek so to speak, like a refreshing breath mint. There's a concept known as "giving a fool enough rope to hang themselves."

Debserious's avatar

Glad your feeling some joy! I still can’t get over that out of an entire country of men, this guy - the worst example ever - gained any success and cult following. Our shame that he was ever president will sting for a while but watching sharp, dedicated justice officials patiently work to hold him accountable is a beautiful thing to behold! ⭐️👏

Alex Mercedes's avatar

It's a complicated joy. Like a prisoner released from a subterranean cell for 20 minutes of sunlight; grateful that my ability to feel joy has not been completely obliterated by the constant barrage of Trumpism but still suffering, still aware that the nightmare isn't over yet.

Karla's avatar

I’m a 68 year old white woman who is right there with you. Fani Willis and Letitia James are strong, smart, black women.. all things he hates. Having them take him down is icing on the justice cake.

Alex Mercedes's avatar

And Judge Engoron is 76 years old. There's been so much disparaging discussion of "age" lately in the media. Ms. James is in her mid-60s. I love the fact that senior citizens are doing this righteous work as much as I love seeing men and women, Black and white, working together.

Rosemary Sullivan's avatar

Curious that his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is flush with Saudi cash, has not offered to help. Or is it?

Alex Mercedes's avatar

hahahaha.... I wondered whether Jared and Ivanka were among those Donald unsuccessfully solicited for help since the judgment.

Rick Calegari's avatar

Or one of his bromance idols like Cousin Vlady. He's got to be so desperate right now that there's no telling how far he'll go to save his ass and assets. Perhaps Jared and Ivanka want to hang on to their very questionable nest egg and further distance themselves from him and his predicaments.

"M"'s avatar

Can we assume that, though?

Given that Chubb Insurance's oarent company a few times removed is in fact in Moscow, like one of those nested Russian dolls?

It could be that Vladimir wants to "help" , so that Donald is even further indebted to him; he just doesn't want to be SEEN doing it.

Texas Road Trip's avatar

Putin, MBS, Zuckerberg, Musk, or Bezos might give Donald money. It won’t be a loan because we know he doesn’t pay his bills.

Maureen Mannion's avatar

Love that you put the 3 Billionaires in the same "bed" as Putin!

D4N's avatar

Damn but that's a horrible 'visual' though..

Nightmaher's avatar

I thought Medias Touch LAF said yesterday that Chubb shareholders made them back out of paying. Also Jared got that money for a venture of several people for for investment. So it’s not Jared’s money. Learned that from Michael Popok (sp)on same video on YouTube. That was on a hot take of the same (I think it’s this one).

Probably not considering it was reported that the violation of RICO laws could come into play if this was to happen.

GARRISON DEBORAH's avatar

Musk turned him down, and the visit in Mar a Lago 2 weeks ago from the dictator was probably to beg for funds also that's why his wife was paid to show up. I believe that went no where. Have you noticed that since Putin has said he respects Biden and has nothing for Trump he has stopped praising Putin.

Morgan OCailleigh's avatar

How do we know what Jared's done with the money? Does he still even have it in cash? Does he have any of it left? It's been several years since he got it, why is everyone assuming that jk has any $ at all?

just asking.....

Rick Calegari's avatar

We don't know what Jared or Ivanka did with their money. However, it was reported by CREW that they made between $172 and $640 million while in the White House.

S howard's avatar

Do you mean stole while in the white house?

Rick Calegari's avatar

Probably a more accurate description.

Norah Seidnoc's avatar

Well for one thing they have a house apparently worth 24 million, poor things.

Barbara A. Tidyman's avatar

The NYT today has a photo of Jared and a story about how he is traveling and looking for ways to invest his Saudi money. Jared has had a very good teacher (his father-in-law) and it looks like Jared has not only learned to hold tight to his money, but to turn his back on his mentor. Ivanka must be so proud !

GARRISON DEBORAH's avatar

Jared got what he wanted from his Father-in Law, Trump pardoned his father, and he and wifey-poo have distanced themselves from orange daddy, he threw both of them under the bus, during the Jan 6 investigation.

Nightmaher's avatar

See my answer above in reply about the money or check here:

https://youtu.be/1Mst1_zJmxk?si=WkXqJzdKO9yaiw7_

Carol Murchie's avatar

The money was given by the Saudis with the understanding it be used to launch a hedge fund and that would lock it away, I believe, away from any individual's little fingers

Gloria J Parsons's avatar

I'm pessimistic enough to think someone , from somewhere is going to bail him out. Surely Putin doesn't want to see him in jail. Does he want him in the White House again, badly enough to contribute some big money?

David Holzman's avatar

Putin only wants Trump around if he can get something out of him. Once Trump can't be useful to Putin, Putin won't give a damn for him.

D4N's avatar

My gut feeling David, with no proof to offer except history, is that a whole lotta' Daddy Warbucks types - some of whom we know, like "Krotch Ind." are or have already decided to 'make like wise Aleutian fishermen' and "fish, cut bait, or get out of the boat." As for Putin, history shows how he deals with former 'tools' - Novichok, * or polonium. None of them want 'tales to be told.' *edit > Another 'bonus' of that course would be to create a 'martyr' for the glorious (?) cause.

Philip Chandler's avatar

No point in just having an idiot, he needs a useful one.

Permian Extinction's avatar

Since the NY properties are encumbered, Ms. James is welcome to take the Trump International Hotel in Chicago off his hands as well and no one will have to look at the gigantic Trump sign on the river side anymore.

Michele Desoer's avatar

That's a great idea. It's so ugly and visible across the river. I love Chicago and that is a huge eyesore.

John Kendrick's avatar

I think to force the sale of a Chicago building, the N.Y. judicial action would have to become actionable in Illinois, which Trump will fight. The quickest way to get that money for the state of New York is to seize assets that are actually in New York, like the Wall Street property, the Park Avenue (Trump tower) property and/ or the mansion in upstate New York (Westchester). Of course, those properties may already have loans and/or liens against them. Forcing all of those assets into foreclosure will cause Trump and his sons, lots of pain, but frankly it could not happen to more deserving people.

Barbara A. Tidyman's avatar

You forgot his golf courses -- especially Westminster where he buried Ivana's cremation urn in a full-size casket, which pallbearers have reported was extemely heavy -- and the rumor is that he might have buried highly confidential federal files in the casket with her remains.

Maureen Mannion's avatar

That would be a pretty safe way to hide the files. Hope Letitia James knows about this possibility.

John Kendrick's avatar

Does he have any golf courses in New York state? I do not know about all of his holdings. The Bedminster property is located in New Jersey, and that would require that the N.Y. court be granted the ability to enforce the judgement in New Jersey. That is technically possible, but Trump will use legal tactics to delay.

Barbara A. Tidyman's avatar

Thanks, John, for catching my error. It is in New Jersey. But the rumor remains.

John Kendrick's avatar

No worries, it is hard to keep track of all of this stuff. Theoretically, the New York case could (via legal action) become enforceable in different states like Illinois, Florida, etc. But those proceedings apparently can be subject to various legal actions, by the person who owes the money. Those could probably be overcome, but they will take time.

alice jena's avatar

he HAD one in the Bronx= NO MORE!!!!!

Janine's avatar

Is it possible that money coming from questionable ties may not be allowed? I don't know I'm just guessing.

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

I read a couple of weeks ago (can't recall where) that Mar-a-Lago is actually owned by the NY corporation, so it is an asset that can be seized. I'm hoping that I didn't misunderstand that. Wouldn't that be something if he became homeless? LOL!

Donna Bonarrigo's avatar

Yes. I heard Maralago is part of his NY LLC.

D4N's avatar

John, I think it's been said that nearly everything is leveraged out to the hilt and layered as part of it's modus operandi - to use, leverage, and cover up.

Kimberly Keyes's avatar

I saw a photo of that hotel once and I can see why you'd want that name removed. I live outside of DC and many of the locals were relieved when the Trump International Hotel DC was sold and it's now known as the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC.

Linda Krause's avatar

Thanks for the update Mary. I’m so proud of our Leticia James. Who would have thought NY would bring him down. Hopefully this is the beginning of his downfall. We have to beat him like we did before. Freedom will ring💙💙🇺🇸🇺🇸

Mia Marietta's avatar

So, let's pause for a moment to appreciate that the dude who is all about grabbing others by their parts, is, at long last, going to have his own assets seized.

KC's avatar

Grab him by the ass...etts!

Robert Powell's avatar

Tough shit!! He so richly deserves this!!

Jedi Senshi's avatar

What do you mean he can't pay, didn’t he say he was a billionaire? 😁

Diana-Sedona's avatar

Yes he did! And, Alina, his "pretty" attorney, has said over and over how rich he is! Wait...what...they both lied?!?!?!? Shocking! 😱 😱 😱

"M"'s avatar

Andrew Weissman brought that up in the context of "Was he lying then or is he lying now?"

Mark C. Abbott's avatar

Forget about "or" -- the correct answer to both questions (as always w/PAB) is "yes."

Matthew Ford's avatar

There have been theories that he’s not as rich as he’s claimed: this seems to officially prove it.

Also: Did you know that in the Comedy Central Roast of him, jokes that suggested he’s not as rich as he’s claimed weren’t allowed.

"M"'s avatar

Oh, no

Really?

I wouldn't put it past him, since the man has zero sense of humor about himself

Garry Spelled Correctly's avatar

Actually, he zero sense of humor about anything!

Katharine Hill's avatar

All I can think about is “oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive” or the other quote about chickens coming home to roost. His history of discrimination in housing so many years ago will finally take him down.

Audrey Roth's avatar

I am cautiously optimistic, but remembering that he pulled a very similar thing with the bond that he had to post for E. Jean Carroll’s court award, only to post the bond the day before the deadline.

Jean A's avatar

I agree. He doesn't want to pay the money so he is in his usual mode of seeing what he can get away with. I hope Letitia James does not budge an inch and stands firm in making him cough up the funds. I think the NY Times should do a front page article on his comments about "gonna be a bloodbath" if he doesn't get elected. I take it those are his words for "I am throwing a tantrum" and you suckers are going to die in it. If Pres Biden had said the bloodbath words the GOP would be all over it and saying he can't be President, what an awful dangerous thing for him to say!

Janine's avatar

I believe him and I believe he desperately signaling his base for the election and also to push intimidation and fear because he knows the axe is starting to fall.

This guy has broken laws left and right

If I yell fire in the movie theater I get arrested right?

This guy is yell8ng bloodbath and egging on one of the biggest villians in modern history..Putin

And we all can go on and on for days of all the laws he has broken

So he needs to be in

PRISON

Jack A.'s avatar

Exactly! He is doing some last minute negotiations to get the sum he owes lowered. If it does not work, he will show up with the money or a bond, he knows plenty of characters in foreign lands , who will get him funded somehow. While some people owe him for the huge tax cuts he gave them, they will own him after lending him hundreds of millions, and if he wins the election they will be the proud owner of the POTUS. A worthwhile risk with such a huge potential return. This is all speculation, he might just as well be on the road to bankruptcy.

Janine's avatar

He may be promising them more top security files

Maureen Mannion's avatar

You and I are on the same page on this Audrey. I see this as part of another scheme on the Donald's part. I will admit this was a desperate move because he was forced to admit he lied about his wealth which must been a bitter pill to swallow. But there's the possibility of a huge gain in this embarrassing ploy for him somewhere. Otherwise he would never admit he doesn't have the money. He's made this move a week ahead of the deadline so methinks Donnie is manipulating someone somewhere to bail him out. It's scary but God help me I'm beginning to think like this crook!

Audrey Roth's avatar

We are forced to think like him. It’s our only hope of stopping him from becoming President again and hammering the final nail into democracy’s coffin.

Philip DeWalt's avatar

After his bloodbath statements for the good of the country he needs to be locked away from any ability to communicate with his followers because he’s just champing at the bit to unleash violent chaos on the country and the world for that mater, and that ain’t hyperbole!

Janine's avatar

Thank you! Exactly!

Liz Cooper's avatar

I wish hope more people will sponsor this very good and worthwhile substack post

Jean A's avatar

Yes, Mary Trump is doing her best to keep us informed and gathering support for Democracy. She really deserves money to support herself as well as to reach more people with her message. I appreciate having a forum here to voice my opinion and to read others.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Hi All, Donald is out on bail for a number of charges, some are felonies.. it is incomprehensible to me why, after his pronouncements in Ohio the other day why his bail is not revoked and he is put in jail? Any other criminal whose behavior resembled Donald while out on bail would have that bail revoked and he would be in jail…. Anyone? Anyone?

Kate Madison's avatar

I think it is our media's desperation to keep the drama going! Also, remember that Trump's SCOTUS appointments wield power outside of their courtroom, as well as Federal and State judges who owe their careers to Trump's wealthy insiders. Besides, Putin, Netanyahu, Orban and other disgustingly wealthy wing-nut "dictators" may be ready to jump in and save the day for The Orange Menace. Sigh...

Barbara A. Tidyman's avatar

Why blame the media when he could have been stopped by Mitch McConnell with a vote on his last impeachment, which would have left him unable to run for president again? And how about Trump's own lawyers, and the judges who all know this delaying is s*** but who keep postponing his arrest and incarceration.

We are each blessed with a vote and we'd better try to multiply it. The MAGAs are out in force.

Alex Mercedes's avatar

There's lots of blame to go around. Including Mitch. Including the corporate media. Including Bill Barr and Mike Pence and all those Congress people whose votes against impeachment let him stay in the People's House. It's a long list.

Maureen Mannion's avatar

Good points about his so called friends. But I suspect all his so called friends share Donald's outlook on life and like Donald only help if they are to gain. And the biggest gain would be if he got back in the White House again. At this point that's not a good bet so Donald's friends may let him blow in the wind.

Beverly D's avatar

The orange ‘dictator wanna be’ IS not alone. If he gets or Has Already gotten money from Putin, the Saudi prince he’s OWNED. Or maybe it’s Thiel and Musk… he’ll still BE Owned. By Fascists.

At his rallies, supporting Him and this fascist bent in America, Standing with tRump, standing as he salutes the insurrectionists- Their ARE U.S. senators & governors, house members. WHO and WHAT ARE THESE people??? I know what they’re Not… Not patriotic Americans believing in “law & order” or democracy!

How could they be standing & supporting this rhetoric and behavior!?

Vote against all of them! Vote them out! KEEP them out!!!

Maureen Mannion's avatar

It is truly shocking to witness Fascism in our country. It would be worthwhile for us Americans to review how Fascism got started in Europe and get it in our minds and hearts that we are living through a similar event in America. The missing ingredient is an economic depression but I wouldn't be surprised if the puppet masters created such a crisis to get a Fascist dictator installed here.

This is definitely good news, Mary. We all knew Idiot à l’Orange was lying about being so rich. We knew because he lies about everything. I am trying not to get too celebratory about this. But, dare I hope to see Leticia James posting sheriff sale signs on his prized, heavily-leveraged properties? Oh, yes, I dare.
