Yes, Scalia doomed our country with that decision in the Roberts court. We need to change our SCOTUS to get balance in our country reflecting the wishes of most Americans.
Of course one of the fun features of Citizens United is that when it opened up campaign finance to corporate money it glossed over that most corporations have at least partial foreign ownership so our elections can now be financed by foreign dark money.
The Roberts court is all-in on the oligarchy; they get to buy whatever and whoever they want and they get to dictate what justice they will be subjecting others to.
This is definitely a John Roberts f*ck-up major. The SOB needs to retire or be fired and replaced, but not with Thomas, Alito, Kavanaugh, or Gorsuch. They’re who helped get us where we are. We need NEW representation on the Supreme Court. But first, get rid of Leonard Leo AND the Heritage Foundation.
Congress, or I should say a “new Congress”, needs to take a serious look at restructuring and reforming the Supreme Court. If we can begin addressing the blatant corruption, conflicts of interest, and lack of accountability that have undermined public trust, perhaps we can finally start rebuilding a judicial system that people can have confidence in.
When Earl Warren was on the Supreme Court all the liberals applauded and it was the conservatives who said that the court should be reformed. Justice Ginsberg, one of the few female justices at the time was constantly getting insults from the Conservative side of the aisle. Yet no one was calling for her to be removed from the Court. Reforming the Court just because you do not like who is on it, is not a reason to reform the Court. Again I think both Ginsberg and Warren and of course let us not forget the late great justice Thurgood Marshall, one of my favorites. What if he was forced to leave the Court early??? Many people wanted him to do so, but he stood his ground and is one of the great titans of Civil Rights we EVER have. No politician could have accomplished what Justice Marshal did to promote Civil and Justice for all because there was AND IS too much influence over elected politicians. Be careful what you wish for, all those great men and women could have not done what they did if the Court was subject to outside influences.
It is unfortunate that Dark Money in all levels of Politics has blossomed to such an extent that the common voter is unable to be heard. Dark Money use to be a stigma but now it is a treasured gift. The only way to combat this is to appoint new justices who can reverse the mistake which has shut of the common voter from fulfilling the ideals of our founders.
Remember Musk recently paid millions to get a far right candidate elected in Germany. He is the real evil. He wants to turn the US into Apartheid South Africa.
From a pro-democracy values perspective, the most frequently targeted SCOTUS decisions span several distinct cases and need overturned — It’s astonishing that all of these are under John Roberts as Chief Justice of SCOTUS.. who could have thought..All the reason to change up SCOTUS..

3. Shelby County v. Holder (2013) Gutted Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, ending "preclearisation" requirements for states with histories of racial voter discrimination.
4. Rucho v. Common Cause (2019): Ruled that partisan gerrymandering is a "political question" beyond the reach of federal courts.
5. Louisiana v. Calais (2026): Narrowed the scope of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act in a way that critics argue facilitates aggressive mid-decade racial and partisan gerrymandering.
6. Trump v. United States (2024): Granted former presidents broad immunity from criminal prosecution for official actions taken while in office
7. Trump v. Slaughter (2026): Overturned long-standing precedent regarding independent agencies, stripping away civil service protections and giving the President direct authority to dismiss Senate-confirmed officials arbitrarily
This is awful, to say the least! How do we right this wrong? I would love to overturn Citizens United. We need to re-establish limits on political contributions so that money does not dictate the outcome of any election. It is also clear to me that the Supreme Court needs to be changed. We need term limits for the justices. There should be accountability for justices who accept lavish gifts that may buy political favor. And if and when we get another Democratic (or reasonably progressive) president, they should expand the Supreme Court with their own appointed justices.
