I don't think Trump II is quite what they were expecting, although Elon Musk's DOGE rampage and the gutting of the federal government do have a direct ancestor in the America First movement between the two world wars and in the far right that's flourished since. (Joe McCarthy died in 1957 but McCarthyism never did.)
