I’m calling it: Apart from Donald, New York Republican Elise Stefanik wins the prize as their party’s top gaslighter. Quite an accomplishment, considering the competition.

Every lie is an audition to be Donald’s Vice President pick. But today she gave us a true gift – a lie that backfired spectacularly. As she tried to kiss Donald’s ring, she slipped in the worst way.

Here are the details of this humiliating blunder, plus two more you need to know about:

Stefanik’s first mistake

Hearing news that E. Jean’s trial will be delayed until tomorrow, Stefanik quoted this tweet:

Running with the conspiracy theory, Stefanik double-downed on the comment and tweeted, “This is blatant election interference! Joe Biden and his Democrat cronies are the true threats to democracy! TRUMP 2024!”

The only problem? Not only does Joe Biden and the Democratic party have NOTHING to do with E. Jean Carroll’s civil case, but Donald’s own legal team asked for the delay. 😂

Also, it’s “Democratic,” you immature twit.

Here’s the truth… because truth still matters: One juror reported to the judge that they were feeling ill. The judge then gave Donald’s team the choice to continue one juror short, or wait.

It was at that point that Donald’s attorney, Alina Habba disclosed that she too had a fever, after spending time with her parents, who both tested positive for COVID-19… and, yes, she still showed up to court knowing all of this and sat next to her client without wearing a mask.

Habba herself asked for the adjournment.

But Elisa didn’t back down. Twitter promptly roasted her for accidentally attacking Donald’s own team. It even mercilessly fact-checked by Paula Reid on CNN.

Knowing Donald, he will not be happy that Stefanik embarrassed herself… or his legal team.

Stefanik’s second mistake

Stefanik’s failed attempt to suck-up to Donald this morning was only the latest example of her desperation.

A few days ago, Donald made headlines for repeatedly mixing up the names of Nancy Pelosi and Nikki Haley on the campaign trial. Even Nikki Haley, notoriously reluctant to criticize Donald for anything, called him out.

But Stefanik saw an opportunity.

During an interview in New Hampshire where she’s campaigning for Donald, she effectively told the entire country not to believe what they heard with their own ears. In Stefanik’s view, Donald’s gaffe was actually a brilliant political attack:

Stefanik: “That isn’t a mix-up. The reality is…”

Reporter: “[Haley] wasn’t Speaker…”

Stefanik: “Nikki Haley is relying on Democrats just like Nancy Pelosi to try to have a desperate showing in New Hampshire.”

I doubt this will help Stefanik get in back in Donald’s good graces – there are few things he likes less than having his mistakes pointed out.

By highlighting his gaffe, she gave it more oxygen, focusing attention on it after people had nearly forgotten about it. Strike two.

Stefanik’s biggest mistake

Elise Stefanik remains an unrepentant liar and continues to be willing to do whatever she can to achieve her own political ambitions, regardless of the consequences to others, or herself. For instance, few people know that she was removed from the senior advisory committee at Harvard’s school of government because of her perpetuation of Donald’s 2020 election lies.

In my view, her biggest mistake is the extent to which she underestimates voters – including you.

I understand the skepticism—even though I’m coming at it from a completely different direction. I often wonder how the hell it’s even possible that so many voters are willing to give Donald the Republican nomination, putting him dangerously close to occupying the White House.

But in 2020, when we mobilized and got the word out, enough people listened, and together we kept Donald from getting a second term. This time, we’ll need an even bigger push.
