Rubio's comments about Western civilization echo the Nazi's position on the same; it's chilling how everyone in Europe, and we educated Americans can spot it without being told, while MAGA fails to see the throughline as they lose their minds about being called Nazis by the rest of us. The power of the German cult and the power of MAGA are identical. It's on the rest of us to show up in every single damn election, and to stop them. It is on us. Period. No excuses, no exceptions.

Mary E. Martin's avatar

Well said Nicole - we have to commit ourselves to voting. Everyone needs to check their state election site, check and re-check their voter registration, and vote as early as possible to take care of any issues that could occur (changed addresses, marital status, etc.).

LoveMuley's avatar

All that and how about SIMPLY VOTE!! I am so disgusted and disappointed by how many registered Democrats decided to just not VOTE in 2024 .

The hell!??

Patti's avatar

There is no excuse for not voting when our very lives are under assault.

D Epp's avatar

Many Democrats did vote--and those votes were not counted. They were lost, rejected, or they found out they had been removed from the voter rolls. Plus, Musk admitted that without his interference, Trump would have lost the presidency and the House.

Thank you, and let us boost this signal everywhere. I understand the frustration and the feeling that our votes don't seem to matter, that our candidates are imperfect, etc. I remind people however, that every cycle allows us to build infrastructure in our own interests: Roe for example, was a decision that came down to the Justices that had been seated; the Civil Rights Act to the Congress and president we'd elected (after generations of marching as well). So much resistance right now is coming down to local and state leadership. Our votes matter profoundly, and when we need to move the needle in our own party, we fine-tune the candidates at the primaries and we show up at town halls, etc.

And regarding the electoral college: think of how hard it would have been for DT to claim a mandate if everyone in every state, even reliably blue ones, had voted, and our popular votes outnumbered the electoral votes by tens of millions. It would have enabled us to push back on the mandate narrative. We must all vote who are eligible, up and down every ballot. People in less democratic nations would give their kidneys for the gift we throw away every few years here, because we don't like someone's laugh, or their position on one of a thousand issues. That has to change if we want to build the kind of nation we're crying out for. xx

Mary going to piggy back on your comment if you don’t mind. Would challenge us all to vote in every election. This includes local and state. The School Board seats who are banning books at random, to the local Sheriff if you have one. To the state from Governor’s and Sec. of State who hold the keys to voter rolls. Of course the federal seats of the House, Senate and Presidency. But some of these House members started locally and got through the cracks to get to DC. Would suggest to already start looking to see if you are still on your state voter rolls. In Ohio we are already looking at a court case for “purging” from our Sec. of State. Women would urge you to vote we only had the right to do so in 1920 only 100+ years and we only got the right in 1974 to get a bank loan for ourselves. Voter Rights have been eroding for a long time and we need to ensure it’s never taken away. Thanks and stay safe and healthy… Vote!

My mother is Mary E. Martin! She is a demented trumper. But seeing your name as a different individual pleases me. My MEM is forgotten and gone. Sad but don’t care. Good riddance.

So sorry about your mother Ma but I do understand and sympathize. Be sure to take care of you!

It is the question you ask that most bothers me: what happened to Rubio in 6 short years to change him so completely? Sometimes, watching him, it feels like he’s finally feeling the power-loving part of him— that has always wanted to be on top but never thought he could—and is simply … loving being in that position. Savoring it. Not wanting to return to obscurity. A tiny tyrant emerging.

Gloria J Parsons's avatar

I think you see Rubio for what he is… intoxicated with power he thinks TJT. has bestowed upon him. Rubio will pay for not recognizing the long view.

The anti-immigration movement is an interesting concept. The thing is, most all Americans are descendants of immigrants. Unless a person is descended from indigenous people, they are an immigrant. I believe the real basis for this is racism.

RRiveter's avatar

No shit Jim. You said a mouthful. And idiotic, illegal ICE picks up Native Americans, for God's sakes! What the hell are they thinking???????? Well, we all know what that is really all about. Every American is, generations back, from somewhere else, unless your ancestors were indigenous to these shores. Case closed. And yes, there is certainly unfettered racism, but what about the Irish guy who is in jail because of some minor visa problem?? He's not the only one. If I were that couple, I swear to God that I would tell ICE to kiss my white, Irish ass, we will self-deport and live in my home country, where I will continue to live without the US bullshit.

Does anyone else not see that the US has ALREADY entered the “competitive authoritarianism” phase of MAGA’s march toward full-fledged fascism? And — that being the inarguable case — it means that it doesn’t matter how many people come out to vote because all elections going forward will simply be called in favor of MAGA. Previously conventional means such as voting and appeals to the Constitution are not going to save us at this point. The 2024 election settled that question. In fact — the greater the turnout the stronger MAGA’s argument will be that “See — we live in a vibrant healthy democracy.” In other words — voting in record numbers plays right into their hands. How does EVERYONE not see this??????

The only thing now that can bring an end to this authoritarian regime is nonviolent civil resistance — and even that is a Hail Mary.

I see someone (Rubio) discovering how much he loves-/ and feels he deserves —power. Caligula.

That may be, but they don’t know they are IN the pit.

We don’t have to let this happen.

The USA betrayal of Ukraine in word and deed, the intentional undercutting and weakening of NATO, threatened invasion of Denmark/Greenland, the over one year long attempt to economically break and annex Canada, including financial support and meddling with Alberta’s separatist rump will NEVER be forgotten or forgiven. The USA will spend the rest of this century; perhaps longer trying to demonstrate it has stepped back from the precipice, if it stops the nonsense now. Much longer if it doesn’t, and it won’t. Whatever benefit of the doubt it claws back, it will never again be trusted. It has become a feckless untrustworthy nation choosing to side with the threats of the last 80 years. Why? It’s not out of principle. Follow the money, as always.

Like you said Mary, tens of millions of voters put a known thief, rapist, bankrupt and insurrectionist back into power. Sure Elon was involved, but there were still what? 70 million who knowingly voted for this! There is a deep, deep sickness in the U.S. and the world is disgusted

Not only is Rubio a traitor to our country, he is a traitor to every Cuban American and Cuban refugee. He is a traitor to his culture and to his family. All chickens come home to roost, his day will come.

janet's avatar

Karma, chickens - makes us feel better to think a price will be paid eventually. I'm not convinced, sadly.

Dannys's avatar

Thank you Rita. I agree. Americans have traitors to humanity also.

Joseph Garza's avatar

If left to it own devices, the society that Rubio advocates would in time turn against those like him who are not "white" enough to suit white nationalist.

D Epp's avatar

Exactly. Those ICE agent of colour need to know that they will be the last ones rounded up and shipped off. Probably never get paid either.

Jay E. Korman's avatar

I suspect that Mr. Rubio also misses the point that the White movement is an anti-Catholic movement because many people forget the ASP (Anglo-Saxon Protestant) part of the supremacy belief. As the son of Cuban immigrants, he's either missing that he's being a useful idiot, or he's ignoring it to gain some access to power. The bottom line is he's still Hispanic and will be discarded when no longer needed, just as any other "minority" person will be.

A mistake that German Jews made in the late '30s & early '40s was that they thought they were German first. The Nazis disabused them of that belief. Anyone who is not "White" should remember that lesson. When it comes down to it, you are Other. Anyone who is in a minority group, including Jews, who is not worried is not paying attention to history. Silence is compliance.

Dannys's avatar

Well said. Just one correction “Hispanics” are also white. Americans classify other people and count and label other people. The purpose is to count as many groups as possible. It makes discrimination and hate easier.

H Irwin's avatar

"Silence is compliance." It is so.

DonP's avatar

Rubio is a reminder that Himmler was also a "quiet one".

Lisa Botwinick's avatar

Rubio makes no sense to me since he is the son of Cuban immigrants yet, he shares Putin views about Russia. Russia was communist too like his Cuba. I visited Cuba in 2019 and it's a very poor country, however, the people are beautiful as well as the art and Mojitos! 😀

Dannys's avatar

Hint. He likes Russia. His father did not.
