Mary! Your writing can take the most merciless form of hell....and make it tasty to read about.

I

can

not

figure

out

how

you

do

it

Come on you two, start organizing an anti-Trump book convention. Party time. And let me perform my 4 or more songs about the creep that still creeps.

Roslyn Reid's avatar

Oh I luv it! And let's have it in Palm Beach! :)

Mike Cohen's avatar

Yes, tasty. Just a bit salty, lots of hot pepper, sprinkled with love and brilliance, and smothered in truth.

Michele Desoer's avatar

Right? If I had a relative like that, I'm not sure what I would do.

Trude Diamond's avatar

Mary, for you succinct analyses of autocratic behavior wherever it occurs, you deserve a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Let's get it back off dead Limbaugh's neck.

In the old days of "18th century values", ladies like Jean-Pierre and Harris used to work for free. I got your sarcasm, Mary, and this is mine.

Laina's avatar

Don't forget they tried to lower Pete Buttigie

g's pay, too. Wonder why? Also, sarcasm.

Michele Desoer's avatar

Exactly. And are you allowed to pay less than minimum wage (not suggesting that would be appropriate, either).

As usual, Mary Trump “calls it like it is.” Republicans have apparently become so accustomed to lies they don’t think twice about swallowing them whole, no questions asked. For someone who loves her country this entire situation is heartbreaking. And we have been and are being warned constantly by others as well. See if you can get a copy of MacLean’s “Democracy in Chains” and Richardson’s more recent “Democracy Awakening” for some background on how we got here and what we still might do to save our representative democracy.

Patricia Williams's avatar

I’ve ordered it. Thanks.

FYI, they reduced Pete Buttigieg’s pay to $1 earlier this week due to Marjorie Taylor Green’s efforts. Of course they need these salary changes to be approved by the senate and signed by President Biden so not likely to happen but if the democrats lose the presidency and senate next year, this is part of the chaos we can get. https://www.businessinsider.com/house-republicans-move-cut-pete-buttigieg-salary-to-one-dollar-2023-11

Michele Desoer's avatar

Hmm. Wonder why they singled out him, VP Harris, and KJP?n /s/

Terry F.'s avatar

They’re following the same playbook from the Hillary and Benghazi fiasco. Ain’t gonna work. Women and young voters are going to save our democracy.

Mary --- it's impossible for me to wrap my head around what motivates these people and how they rise to power. Maybe it's a personality trait, moral people who set the integrity bar high just don't make it in politics.

Ellen Fanning's avatar

Obama and Biden both have genuine integrity. And so many more people in politics also. It’s just the mega greedy politicians that have zero integrity, mostly republicans these days. It is all about money and power! Disgraceful!

Claire Read, PhD's avatar

I always thought Joe Manchin was a not-so-undercover Republican. Thanks for confirming. It's interesting to watch people who don't let morals get in their way try to blaspheme those who do. The Newt Gingrich thing was such a window into that. There is this psychotic level of cognitive dissonance in the discourse of the Republican Party that constantly intrigues me. Thank you for this piece, Mary, it is right on.

Valere's avatar

Indeed Claire call my follow the money straight to the root of their cognitive dissonance.

Claire Read, PhD's avatar

Hi, Valerie, I really love that visual...I can just see the descending hoard scrambling for the green in any way they can get at it. I so wish our "leaders" would realize that they were brought on and are paid to act in the best interest of the country. There is no one at the Congressional helm really.

"We're Not Just Going To Give You $750,000! We're Not A Bank, Jerry."

---“Fargo” 1996 Film by The Cohen Brothers

OH, Geez this is one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite movies. The obscenity and absurdity of Jerry Lundegaard’s devious plan devolved into chaos, death, and eventually prison. So much unnecessary suffering for so many with Jerry’s surefire deal and "simple" plan.

I cannot help but draw dangerous and disastrous parallels between Jerry and Donald. Watching Donald these past 8 years has been like watching a horror movie play out in real time; too many Republicans just sat there eating their popcorn watching this nightmare unfold for too long. Marge said to Jerry: "There's More To Life Than A Little Money, You Know...And Here Ya' Are, And It's A Beautiful Day." Darn Tootin!

Today's politics feels like we are back in the Old Wild West. Lucky for us we have our modern day Wyatt Earp, I meant Mary Trump to protect us at the O.K Corral.

Paula Harmon's avatar

Dodge City but worse.

Thank you for this post. Your Fargo comment truly represents the parallels of our time . Unfortunately it’s Dodge City on steroids.

Lisa P. Singer's avatar

Sadly yes. Should not be like this. So much important work needs to be done for our country and the world. Wasting time with these fake unnecessary duals. Let’s ask Alexander Hamilton how that went for him. Thank you for your reply.

Jennifer Em's avatar

I LOVED Fargo! The TV series was really good, too! ( Seasons 1&2, anyway. I lost Hulu before I could catch later seasons.)

Lisa P. Singer's avatar

Awesome. Thanks so much for the recommendation. I am going to check it out.

Jennifer Em's avatar

It's different from the movie, but very much the same vibe.

Lisa P. Singer's avatar

Wonderful. Appreciate the warning. Thank you.

I always appreciate your posts, and today was no exception! Thanks for continuing this noble work! 👏🏾👍🏾👍🏾

What I can never figure out is why Manchin was ever a Democrat in the first place.

Barry McCullock's avatar

Hypocrisy and corruption are deeply embedded in the DNA of most right wing politicians and always have been. It’s just that now these elements are more visible since they’re accompanied by shamelessness.

Bonnie Brooks's avatar

Mary, these people have more problems than most people ever could be thought about. Most of them lie, cheat and steal to satisfy their needs. It is really sad and crazy, but it is true. Old Manchin is a turn coat Democrat. He is no good, just like the rest of them. They are not for the people, they are for themselves. Making themself look good and to be rich. What is so bad, we all are sitting on our butts, letting these people pocket more money than we all could ever make in a lifetime. We all see what they are doing, but no one wants to speak up and put a stop to what they are doing. So, in return each and other one of us is getting what is coming to us. We are not getting anything in return, but getting the raw in of the deal. The Congress and the White House need to be cleaned out. New faces along with new rules to play by. Senators need a term change, the Judges and others that have been there a long time. There should be a term of at least only 4 years for each, then give someone else a chance in office. Look at the Judges being able to stay till death, this is no good. Most of these people are too old to be there now. It is time that rules are changed to a modding time. Mary, they have gotten away with a lot over the years. But, it is coming to a head now. More people are beginning to see what is being done behind closed doors. No one goods away with murder. It will catch up with you someday. They haven't gotten away with it yet.

Jennifer Em's avatar

I dunno. I'm liking Judge Engoron right about now!🤣🤣

Romelle Samantha Smith's avatar

I guess having a conscience isn't a requirement for politics,

Bill Katz's avatar

Oh the first to comment. Mary, let’s have an anti Trump book convention. Maybe have it at Cooper Union. We can hire a Trump actor make it festive. Oh, I just saw E Jean post. Darn. Har — as she would say.

Patricia Williams's avatar

Be sure to invite as speakers Nancy MacLean and Heather Cox Richardson.

Patricia Williams's avatar

Sorry, it’s Heather, not Harriet

Bill Katz's avatar

Ha ha I was wondering. Nice to see others do the same thing I do. And you are correct. I was about to paste one of my songs but my computer is preventing it. Must be a Republican computer
