On 9/11, I was scheduled to teach a computer class to Clubb employees. On my way in, I heard WNYC FM go off air at 8:46. Shaken, I was a couple of minutes late. The students all had the news up on their monitors, showing the second tower hit just as I walked in.

One student turned to another and asked "How much are we in for?" Chubb insured the building. Another didn't understand why I wanted to send everyone home. Then they wanted me to do the class over for free. And tried to only pay half the insurance claim, arguing it was one incident, not two.

I refused to work for them again.

It's interesting you mention 9/11. I think that it was a serious blow to the American psyche. After the dot.com bubble burst in 2000, a lot of people were hurting financially, then 9/11/01 happens and people felt absolutely afraid in their country which got amplified by "the war on terror" and the daily threat level (remember those colors) for years on end. Do you know what chronic anxiety/fear does to a person? Folks, especially those on the "right" fueled by the threat of "others", wanted a perceived strong leader and re-elected Bush. Well, the consequences of that election led to rise of ISIS, financial strain, etc. not to mention the 2008/2009 crash, which led to the election of the affable Obama, but it fueled tremendous rancor because many saw Obama as an "other." So these perceived blows to the collective psyche have been building for a very long time and have resulted in the ugliest manifestation of all: Donald.

I went into the worst depression of my life right after 9/11, partly because of the event itself, but more because I could feel the forces of repression rejoicing at the opportunity to keep us living in fear.

Indeed, a posit that is justifiable. He is in clear mental decline... exhibits a poor health and diet regime coupled with high stress, anxiety, and tantrums. Frankly, it would not be unreasonable to expect that he could "vapor lock" (stroke, infarction, etc) at any time.

I was raised to abhor any notion of schadenfreude...but I am willing to make an exception here as an example to all his apologists and enablers.

ETTD: "Everything Trump Touches, Dies," icluding himself, which brings me some comfort. And so far, this phrase has been very accurate; Steve Bannon, Roger Stone, Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, George Papadopoulos, Rudy Giuliani, Peter Navarro, and so, so many more. Some are still out causing trouble, but eventually, everything trump touches, dies.

Then there are scores of attorneys who have either ruined their reputation, been heavily sanctioned, fined into bankruptcy, disbarred, or facing serious legal challenges. And, of course there are all the women he tried, but *failed* to break. Women, especially Black women, are his kryptonite. But for most, he is a tornado, a wrecking ball. He ruins lives without a second thought.

But, I believe his world is about to come crashing down around him. Half a billion dollars in debt, court cases piling up, a possible E. Jean Carroll defamation case #3, campaigning around the country, fast food, high blood pressure, stress, anger. He is in a rapid self-destruct cycle with a generous helping of cognitive decline and malignant narcissism thrown into the mix. If there is a goddess, she'll know what to do. If not, mother nature and karma will kick his ass.
