If T's presidency has taught us anything, it's that too much power is now in the hands of the chief executive. Once this one is over, assuming elections are free and fair (and held), much work will need to be done to restore balance to our government--and to ensure at least minimal competence is required of our leaders.

A symbolic gesture to that effect would be to ditch President's Day, as the office and whoever holds it already gets too much deference.

We can just call it Another Monday Off to Go Shopping Because It's Winter and We're Bored.

"When historians look back on this era, they’ll inevitably ask how a nation built on principles of democracy, justice, and equality allowed one man to commit such a broad range of crimes and abuses, and whether President Donald Trump is indeed the most dangerous criminal in American history."

― Thomas Hartmann

Remember when they mocked us for saying Trump is a wannabe dictator who will always put himself above the Constitution? Well, now we have a lunatic running the country in to the ground. We lost everything we know to be honest, caring, and good.

Trump has divided families and friends, his behavior has ruined relationships all over America. Cults are dangerous and MAGA is a cult. They will forgive Trump EVERYTHING. I am tired of their hypocrisy. That's why I wear these kinds of tees in front of them 👇

https://libtees.dashery.com/t-shirts

Any MAGA still supporting Trump is either under a cult spell or solely watching bias news sources with NO connection to reality!

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Heather, MAGA is a cult and its members are carefully groomed in so many ways to forget their humanity when it comes to people they don't know or whom they fear and they are shown just who those people are. They are loud and rich to a great extent, so they carry more weight than anyone else when they shouldn't. It is truly disgusting that according to the polls, somewhere around 38-40% of Americans are OK with what Trump is doing. That is outrageous and shows us all that we have a lot of work to do, particularly working with our children to help develop more caring, decent, kinder human beings into the future.

trump's WHOLE regime is just like him!

Not a single one of them had any friends as a child because they acted like privileged jerks to everyone around them in school.

Not a single one of them have ANY real friends now for all the same reasons.

Not a single one of them respects ANY ONE because they never have respected themselves.

Not a single one of them is happy because they, themselves, are always miserable inside.

Not a single one of them trusts anyone because they know that they, themselves, are untrustworthy.

And not a single one of them are COOL, because Cool people LIKE who they are and LIKE other people, too.

EVERY SINGLE ONE of them are, and have always been, a pain in the ass and...

EVERY SINGLE ONE of them WILL die that way.

EVERY SINGLE ONE of them IS A BRAT...and have ALWAYS been.

THEY WILL take each other DOWN because...

People Treat Other People The Way They Feel About Themselves!!

VOTE 'em ALL OUT!

Ruth Sheets's avatar

June, yes, let's call it Valentine's Day and must move it to the 2nd Monday in February. We can use a little more publicly sanctioned love!

President’s Day is cancelled until we get one

Skitealwedrop's avatar

Perfect response, Mark.

Cats 🐈🐈‍⬛'s avatar

Good. We don’t need another day of “sales.” Time to let this one go away!

Nikki ca's avatar

Bravo! You got that right?

Pamela Tanton's avatar

Interesting. I’ve just bopped along all these years without giving this holiday a second thought. But you’re right! I’m thinking it would be cool to have a National Parks Appreciation Day instead of Presidents Day, with each year focusing on a specific park. There could be educational segments about the place and what kinds of protection it needs. And how humans can help, not harm it.

audrey wells's avatar

Wow, stellar idea, Pamela!

Although maybe we simply add that to our roster of national holidays, still dump President's Day, but instead create "Your Constituents Day" as a joyful reminder to current and future politicians that they're in office as service to Americans, constitutionally referenced as "WE THE PEOPLE".

Lest they forget who WE are and that WE have the right to VOTE, and to free and fair elections.

[Unfortunately, after this year's midterms, we may be forced to demand editing that 'free and fair' part by adding 'free, fair, and SAFE :-(]

p.s. THANK YOU, MARY, you are the best sister of a slimeball narcissist, dotard, and pedophile protector a country could ever ask for <3<3<3.

Lisa Botwinick's avatar

I like WE THE PEOPLE DAY! Let's make that on November 3, 2026!

Bruce Kopetz's avatar

Whaddya talking about, Audrey? Doctor Mary is The Convicted Felon's NIECE, not sister. Inmate P01135809 is her UNCLE. I like your idea about Citizens or Constituents Day. Why not make every election day Citizens Day, a national holiday?

Cats 🐈🐈‍⬛'s avatar

We will need to remove Dumpy’s birthday from the free day at the park and reinstate, I believe Martin Luther King‘s birthday.

Real Apprentice's avatar

That’s actually a beautiful idea.

Imagine replacing presidential ego-posting with a yearly deep dive into Yellowstone, Yosemite, Acadia, the Everglades. Instead of celebrating personalities, we celebrate stewardship.

Zero respect for that pendejo.

Yes, on this Presidents Day, I looked to Abraham Lincoln for wisdom, courage, intelligence, integrity, guidance and moral fortitude.

And I found the following quote in a pertinent and prophetic article:

“In an 1864 letter, Lincoln ominously warned that "corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow," fearing wealth aggregation would destroy the Republic. He emphasized that government rests on public opinion and urged vigilance to prevent power from falling into a few hands.” (Sound familiar?)

“The article also references Thomas Jefferson’s warning of the growing threat to the infant republic posed by the "aristocracy of our monied corporations." The better part of a century later, President Abraham Lincoln echoed Jefferson's fear.

So Jefferson was also very concerned about the “aristocracy of our monied corporations.”

Prophetic, both. And here we are…

(And yes, I’m a nerd!)

The “Hunter”? What President ever wanted this as his motto? I always expected claiming to serve the American people, including the poorest and most wretched of us all. Im no mental health expert, but when a person says this it leads me to wonder if they haven’t lost a marble or more.

Maitri's avatar

Yeah "hunter" is a funny way to spell predator. But it's not far off.

Former Dem's avatar

It's less embarrassing than "Daddy."

Real Apprentice's avatar

Presidents are supposed to talk about serving, protecting, representing. Not settling scores.

When the branding shifts from “we the people” to “me versus them,” it’s fair to question what kind of leadership that reflects.

Strong leaders don’t need predator metaphors. They need steady hands.

It seems to me that we (collectively) are still maintaining the lie that this is is the “land of the free and the home of the brave.” As a descendent of colonizers, I consider myself responsible for maintaining that lie.

White Anglo-Saxon colonizers stole the land from the indigenous people who were doing just fine without us. I agree with Mary. Why do we continue to celebrate presidents who sanctioned genocide, torture, and racism? Trump is an aging, drooling psychopath and is not even bothering to pretend he’s not a racist who really loves to cause harm. I would like a president whose first act is to kneel before every tribal nation in reverent grief and humility and apologize for unforgivable behavior towards indigenous people. And that would extend to African-American people and other people who have been crushed under the wheels of white nationalism. Then, I would like to see Donald Trump on his knees in full surrender in front of millions of us as we encircle him and refuse to let him loose. We are rising up and he will crumble. Thanks Mary. You’re so brave ❤️

Some Things About Me's avatar

I’ll gladly celebrate President Jimmy Carter. Maybe Eisenhower too, for his military service and for his parting warning about the military-industrial complex. JFK too, for his vision and courage. That’s about the end of my very short list.

Steve Ridling's avatar

Yep, Eisenhower IMO was the last great Republican President, he actually cared for the people and fought for the middle class.

Sky Blue's avatar

Just like Ulysses Grant did. But they covered him in scandal, voted in Rutherford Hayes...who totally stopped Reformation in America and brought back white supremacy and the Ku Klux Klan.

America has been fighting people like trump and his maga cult regime for over a hundred years.

Bruce Kopetz's avatar

By saying "Let's go" on 05.Jun.1944 DDE carefully balanced the probability of the Normandy invasion's success while minimizing Allied casualties. Trump the Hunter would have said, "Fuck our casualties. Let's go, ready or not ready."

The orange conman ran for office to avoid prison not because he cared about our country or wanted the job. He’s a convicted felon not a president IMO.

putin and netanyahu STARTED a war to stay IN POWER and OUT of PRISON.

trump IS doing the SAME THING NOW!

When we get through this, we need to use the constitution as our guide, and we need to burn the rest to the ground and completely rebuild. If we don't, this could happen again. I think most of us thought things were going pretty well overall with government, but it appears the RepubliKKKans have been planning in the background for a while. They have done nothing but obstruct justice so that their big orange turd can be happy. They're on their knees so he can be happy. He may have immunity, but they do not. There will come a day when there are trials.

Cherie's avatar

They started with Reagan (he could have been impeached twice). Then Bush 1 appointing the totally corrupt Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. Then his son appointing the totally corrupt Alito and the toady Roberts to the Court. Along the way Limbaugh, Gingrich. Atwater, and Rove, among many others, did their damage.

Sky Blue's avatar

And they ARE finding out what DECADES of HISTORY have shown us ALL...

trump has NO LOYALTY to ANYONE ELSE EVER!!

NEVER EVER TRUST A BULLY because they are SO insecure narcissistic and paranoid that sooner than later EVERYONE becomes one of their enemies and one of their TARGETS!

Hound's avatar

At this point, the White House needs to be demolished to get the stink of it.

There needs to be some adjustments to the constitution that require high level public servants be held to the absolute highest standards. We cannot rely on integrity because 50% of the American people are simply garbage and have no integrity or honor.

Every person in our government and a high-level should be required to sign a contract created by us, the people. If they violate the terms of that contract they must report to prison for punishments. If they were unwilling to send a contract with a soldier does then you better find something else to do like start their own pedophile Island or cryptocurrency scam.

Personally I think his so-called official portrait looks like a mug shot to me!

Cherie's avatar

It IS an altered version of it. He's proud of it, and thinks it makes him look tough. It actually makes him look like a sick dictator, which is what he is.

V Warren - nee Bicunas's avatar

Not the photo that's in this post but the one that he supposedly calls his official portrait it's on Wikipedia

Cherie's avatar

Yes - the official one is a slightly-altered mug shot. He intentionally posed weirdly for it, so they didn't change it much.

V Warren - nee Bicunas's avatar

Ewww. You're right! And I'm right! You can actually see the actual mugshot on Wikipedia 2 by looking up Trump mugshot.

Thank you, Bicunas, but I'd rather not waste the keystrokes.
