I agree with you to some extent about prison. It is certainly not designed to rehabilitate people, which, for the most part, is what it should be used for. Norway does a much better job of that, and I think that for the most part we should try to emulate that.
But a guy like DT--an insurrectionist--needs to be put in an old fashioned prison for the rest of his life, so that he can't find his way into power again, which, with all of his followers, he might well do again.
He is never going to be rehabilitated, and he also needs to be made an example. I think that had President Ford not pardoned Nixon, we wouldn't have had Trump.
