What DO we do now? What can a retired old person do to make some difference? I know voting, but there has to be more. What is the most effective response?

You can contact your local Democratic group and ask for postcards and a mailing list. Postcards reminding people to vote close to the election have been shown to increase turnout by around 25%.

Marjorie, if you’re physically capable of writing, you could order postcards and postcard stamps from bluewavepostcards.org that encourage potential voters to register and vote in swing states. For $65 you can order 100 postcards and stamps and you’ll receive 100 self-stick pre-addressed labels. It doesn’t take too long to stamp and address each card and write a short message (included in the instructions). I think there’s a 15% discount for your first order. I found it very easy to do.

I’m doing postcards through turnoutpac.org. They send you the postcards, the lists and a tested script . (They do a lot of message testing and have real data results that they work.) You pay for stamps. My batch of 200 is due to go out on 10/11. Mobilize.us has other volunteer opportunities - many you can do from home.

Maybe you could volunteer to do phone-banking, or writing post cards or letters to get out the vote? https://www.mobilize.us/?event_type=26 for phone-banking. Texting and postcards: https://www.mobilize.us/events/text-bank-volunteer-opportunities/. Letter writing events are here: https://www.mobilize.us/?event_type=27&is_virtual=true. Please pitch in and help, any amount of time is helpful! Our democracy has held for almost 250 years, now is not the time to quit. I try to do more, and worry less. Cheers! Bless you!

I am very worried that something similar to January 6 could happen on Election Day but even worse, Trump will try to hold on to power or force some kind of coup and will try to take power by force. I have nightmares of a new Civil War. I am from Puerto Rico and Trump treated us very badly when hurricane Maria devastated our island. How can a country like the United States allow a convicted felon to run and become president for a second disastrous term?

Trump was horrible to Puerto Rico! As another American, I was totally disgusted. Our Constitution was written too long ago— simple. No understanding of the complications of technology and multiple shot weapons. And, no imagination, that crooks would run for office, and actually get elected.

The Judge is researching this appeal, and needs to sort out DJT's "Official Presidential assertions in this case. Except, NYC case was not a Federal case, but a State RICO case meaning not all evidence in this appeal will apply for DJTs appeal. He still may be remanded to jail anyway. 🤞🤞

Why shouldn’t Biden announce that he is a dictator on day 1260 and hereby decrees that Trump incited an insurrection that was not an official act of the Presidency and will therefore be held in his Trump Tower apartment for the remainder of his life?

My thought is that Biden’s speech yesterday would have been far more effective if he began it with a false and outrageous edict such as what I wrote above, and then said that he announced that to prove a point-that we cannot have a democracy where one person is above the law.

WE are we the people. Regardless of what the Democratic party decides to do, WE "... fight the fight we're in." (quoting a Politico citation) The political class will define their strategies and fight the fight at their level. Whatever the pols do, we the people don't have a vote in that decision, so we have one job: register Dem voters and get them to the pols, fund Dem party efforts in swing states and candidates everywhere because every congressional seat matters more than ever. I accept that my opinion doesn't matter at every level, only at the "my own action" level. That focuses my thinking and actions.

I was Class of 1969. I went half a day to high school and half to the University of California at Berkeley. In February 1970 antiwar demonstrators burnt down the ROTC building on the UC Berkeley campus so Reagan and Nixon closed it down. June 1, 1970 I put my belongings in a 1963 Buick Wildcat and moved by myself to Arkansas.

MoveOn.org has a lot of projects going. You can do one thing. Or take one zoom workshop. There are other groups, too.

Is that 8pm EST? I’m in Minneapolis so always assume CST and miss things!

Question: Why was there no mention of any trouble with Biden until the debate and now everyone including most guests on MSNBC are calling for him to withdraw from the campaign and also, what do you think of MARIANNE Wiliamson who campaigned for 1.5 years and didn’t get one single delegate and now is ‘throwing her hat in the ring’ AGAIN for an open convention in August. Note: she’s 71 years old. Zero delegates and zero mention of Kamala Harris. If BIDEN decides to end it - and I don’t think he should- HOW is this country completely ignoring the VP, second in command? It’s an insult to women, to black women, to everyone who voted for their ticket in the primary.

I’m furious with the NYT - they threw him under the bus in 2020 and said he had no chance and should drop out. Biden cares not what the elitist and egomaniacal precious NYT has to say. And neither do I. I wrote a letter to the editor after their Opinion Piece. NYT never supported Biden. And never admitted after saying he should drop out in 2020; that not only did he win, beat Trump, but that he has had a remarkable first term.

I'm disgusted with the NYT; I don't know whether its Biden smear job is because of the chief editor's pique or because they're ass-kissing Trump because they don't want him to shut down "The Failing New York Times" if he becomes president again. I cancelled my 8+ years-long subscription Saturday after reading months worth of complaints about Biden's age and then the dumptruck full of opinions saying Biden should step down after one bad debate. The disgraceful SCOTUS opinions on both Chevron and presidential immunity got fewer and much smaller headlines NYT than did the debate performance. The NYT seems tainted to me now.
