Not only will this post give you insights and answers to the Top 8 most common questions I receive, but it will also provide you direct links to Substack support about your particular issue. Let’s go (and feel free to SHARE with anyone you see having trouble)!
1. What is Substack, and why did you start one?
Substack is a newsletter platform. I started The Good in Us Substack because, as you’re all aware, America is at a very dangerous crossroads and we are as divided as ever. While it’s important that we fight the serious threat posed to America by Donald and the Republican Party, it’s crucial that we create community and hang onto what really matters—freedom, our shared humanity, and connecting with each other.
My goal is to provide you with as many insider insights as I can from experts on critical developments. Whenever possible, I try to keep it light because laughter is increasingly important in these dark times. I also like to share my love of art, music, and literature whenever I can. We need have fun!
You can show your support through subscribing at the level at which you feel most comfortable. More on this for question #8 below. 👇
2. How do I sign up?
Welcome! Sign up or upgrade at this link (click here), if you haven’t already. You can join at the free level, or upgrade to became a paid subscriber if you want to support me, amplify my work, and receive exclusive Deep Dive videos, member-only posts, and other perks to be announced.
3. What happens when I click on a button Become a Paying Subscriber (or similar)… am I charged immediately?
You’ll be taken to the subscription page, where you can choose the right plan for you. You aren’t charged until you enter your payment information.
4. I see buttons offering an upgrade, but I already paid! What’s up?
NOTE: Seeing buttons like this DOES NOT mean you aren’t a paid subscriber, or that I don’t appreciate you.
Substack has no easy way to assure that paid subscribers like you don’t see these buttons in my posts. Worse, Substack doesn’t take you to a confirmation page after you sign up. Not ideal!
But I’m working on it. I have pressed Substack to address its technological limitations. I will update you on my progress as I get more information.
5. I’ve paid, why can’t I see your paywalled posts… Wait, am I actually a full support/paid user?
Some people sign up for one Substack, and incorrectly think they’ve signed up for ALL Substack users. Others’ payments did not go through. And others have had Substack tech glitches on the billing side.
To find out your status, it’s one easy click: Once you’re signed in, click this link to one of my Deep Dive video posts. If you can see the full video and transcript – only paid subscribers see full paid posts – you’re good to go!
If you only see the trailer and paywall line and you think you’ve paid, contact Substack support by clicking this link, selecting “I paid for a subscription but don’t have paid access.”
6. What’s this charge on my credit card for Compson Enterprises?
That’s me 🙂
7. How do I sign into my Substack account?
Manage your subscription at this link (click here). When you sign in, there will be several options, including one that sends you an email link to log in.
If Substack does not recognize your email, then you have entered the wrong address, misspelled something, or used the wrong password—or you never actually signed up in the first place. Write Substack for support, using this link (click here).
8. I can’t find your emails in my inbox anymore (or I never did). Why?
After you signed up, did you see my Welcome email? If not, it’s almost always a delivery issue. Check your Spam or Promotions folder. When you see it, check “not spam.” In Gmail for instance, search for my name, or click the spam folder. If you find the email in Spam, click where I highlighted below.
To ensure you get my emails, mark it as important. In Gmail, for instance, click the three dots and select Mark as important.
If this fails, try a Test Email.
Click this link to try test your email address (click here). If you don’t see an email in your inbox after this, check the Spam or Promotions area.
If that doesn’t work, contact Substack support by clicking here, and under “I need help with”, select I’m not receiving emails.
9. Why doesn’t Substack accept PayPal?
Good question! Click here to suggest that, and under “I need help with”, select “I'm requesting a new feature”.
10. Why do you even have an option to upgrade? Aren’t you a billionaire like your uncle??
No. (Also, Donald isn’t really a billionaire.)
Honestly, calling out my family’s despicable, anti-American, and potentially criminal activity has taken a toll. But I cannot stand by and watch Donald destroy our democracy… especially NOW.
I have nearly 150,000 free subscribers as of this writing. If just 5% chipped in for a membership at the price of a tall coffee, I could reach even more voters with the truth. And I must.
