I agree with nearly everything you said, with one exception. After 30+ years in IT I would not say that data centers benefit no one. Climate models run in data centers - they require huge amounts of compute power. Science of all kinds is done in data centers - cancer research, mRNA vaccine development, gene sequencing, etc.
AI is already accelerating much of that research. It’s also generating a bunch of worthless bullshit and disruption. Regulation is desperately needed. Let’s not throw out the baby with the bath water though.

A lot of regulation, as 95% of data centre compute is going towards AI SLOP. Give them the 5% that is actually useful, and make them stick to that!
