The House Freedom Caucus vows to plot revenge against Speaker Mike Johnson after a bipartisan deal is reached to avert a government shut down. He’s “finished.” Read on👇
Tonight, a major crisis has been averted — as long as your name isn’t Mike Johnson.
The House passed a bill to prevent a government shutdown, sending it to President Biden’s desk to sign and keep our essential services running. To any rational human being, that is good news. But no honest person can accuse Republicans of being rational.
Instead, Mike Johnson’s job is on the chopping block, because a few prominent Republicans are already plotting vengeance… for Johnson’s working with Democrats to keep the government functioning.
Same fate as Kevin McCarthy
This past October, in an unceremonious ouster, Speaker Kevin McCarthy faced the ire of Republican hardliners when he dared to use Democrat’s votes to get a budget passed.
What angered them enough to boot him from his job? Avoiding a government shutdown.
What happened next was a crisis of his own making.
To become Speaker in the first place, McCarthy made a deal with the devil – Matt Gaetz. McCarthy wanted to be Speaker so badly that he allowed Gaetz and a few other GOP hardliners to implement a rule that any one member of Congress could call for a vote to remove the Speaker.
We all know what happened to Kevin. Gaetz called for that vote, and McCarthy was promptly ousted. In December, McCarthy announced his resignation, and he is no longer in Congress.
Next up on the chopping block:
Mike Johnson loses MAGA support
During a tirade on his show, Steve Bannon declared that Mike Johnson was “finished.”
"I mean, it's disgusting," Bannon said. "Johnson... suspended the two-thirds, he had to suspend the rules. He's done everything McCarthy's done. To me, he's got to go, he's finished. He's proven his weakness."
The “Freedom” Caucus hears the marching orders.
Republicans line up for an overthrow
“Mike is struggling to grow into the job and is just getting rolled even more than McCarthy did,” one representative recently told Punchbowl.
According to reports, Marjorie Taylor Greene personally warned Mike Johnson she was prepared to oust him from his job.
Republican Congressman Chip Roy from Texas told Kaitlan Collins that, while he didn’t prefer it, he refused to take demoting Johnson off the table.
Rep. Eli Crane from Arizona shared a similar sentiment, but went a step further, calling the motion to vacate “a good tool.” When asked if he thought Johnson could be removed as Speaker, he replied, “If things continue to go the way that they’re going, do I think that’s a possible outcome? Absolutely.”
Subtle.
It takes only one vote
Now Johnson is all set to get Gaetzed, with perhaps an even shorter tenure than the shortest tenure of a Speaker in history – Kevin McCarthy’s. A simple majority vote would send Johnson packing. To say he is vulnerable is an understatement.
Currently, taking into account two vacant seats, Republicans only have a seven vote majority. For comparison, there are over 40 members of the House Freedom Caucus.
I am going to be honest—I find Christo-Fascist Mike Johnson repulsive. Getting rid of him gets us one step closer to having a Speaker Hakeem Jeffries at the helm.
I’m dedicated to making it happen.
What’s next?
Republicans are not only showing us their incompetence, but also their disdain for governance itself. It’s now OUR job to remind the swing voters who aren’t paying attention of this – from now through November.
This week, I’m officially launching a nationwide campaign against Donald’s candidacy, designed to get crucial swing voters to the polls in 2024.
We are not only going to repeat what worked in 2020, but we are going even bigger this year because 2024 is critical.
I will use this platform and a swing-state Speaking Tour, so I can energize our base in 2024 to stop Donald from destroying our democracy. Will you be a part of it with me?
If you support me, please help me reach voters with the truth, by becoming a paying supporter now. 👇
I’m all for ousting Johnson. Bring on Hakeem for some sanity.
Thank you, Mary, for keeping us informed. 💙
Even though I am not surprised about Mike Johnson's fate, I am relieved that a government shutdown has been averted.
