It was Catherine Lucey he called "piggy". Jennifer Jacobs was one of the other reporters who didn't speak up. Why aren't reporters, especially female reporters, speaking up in solidarity for their colleagues?

Expand full comment

Yes, that's what I don't understand. when I heard I thought maybe the others might've taken him to task or even just re-asked Lucey's question. The entire world, including us here in Australia, are still trying to understand how he could've been elected once...but twice!?!? Are people really this stupid?

I'm a 76 yr. old, lifelong resident and citizen of the U.S.; I've been flummoxed since the outcome of the 2016 election as to why anyone would vote for the evil orange menace. He is a disgrace to this country and to the entire planet. I dislike admitting the following truth: Racism and misogyny won the 2016 and the 2024 presidential elections.

I think these were bigger factors than racism and misogyny (although those helped). Look at the record of who he is and how he operates. There’s no way he didn’t cheat. As far as I’m concerned, he made 3 attempts to steal elections, 2 of which were successful. If we don’t start dealing with this reality and do something about it, he will steal himself a blood red Congress in 2026.

I am also 76 and feel exactly as you do, Judy. I can remember exactly where I was standing in my living room the day the Access Hollywood tape with Billy Bush came on my TV screen. Misogyny reigns. Remember the debates with Hillary and how he physically stalked her on the stage…and humiliated her by bringing in some of her husband’s accusers? And then he smirked and bragged about he doesn’t pay taxes because he’s so “smart.” He sickened me from the start. I will also never forgive James Comey for bringing up Hillary’s emails the night before the election.

Judy McNichols, I agree with you 100%. It was racism and misogyny that got Trump elected both times. It wasn’t the “ economy” because it really was improving under President Biden. And it wasn’t the same in 2016 when Trump won against Hillary Clinton. That and continued help from Putin.

Judy, I also have no idea how he won. I do believe they cheated! Remember in 2020 when he called the republican in charge of counting votes. Trump told him that he needed 11,734 (give or take a few numbers), to win. From that point on, he should have been disqualified from ever running for office. Even if it was for the dog catcher!! So, now, here we are, living in trump's nightmare!

Oh, yes, I do remember the 2020 election! I'm a Democrat in a deep red county who serves on the local board of elections in north central Georgia. We did three audits which all verified the original voting numbers. I was beyond aggravated that our third audit was a hand count!!!!!!! I agree with you that he should have never been permitted to run for office again. And, I wish there were some way to prevent people who voted for him in 2024 to not be able to vote for president in the next two election cycles!!!! They could vote in all the other races except the presidential race..... (Wouldn't the Rethugs have a hissy fit beyond belief??????)

He wasn't fairly elected. He cheated every time. What's really perplexing to me is why we almost never have recounts & audits, even when the results are very suspicious. Democrats are loathe to call for recounts or audits. They are much more willing to accept illegitimate election results & a fascist regime than risk being called an "election denier".

Tracey Queripel's avatar

Partly because MAGA made such asses of themselves denying President Biden’s obviously legitimate victory in 2020. It’s almost as if it were part of Donald’s plan, like he was setting it up so that anyone who questions the 2024 results is immediately equated with the MAGA morons of 2020.

Those who call questioners of 2024 crazy conspiracy theorists fail to see there is a big difference between baseless allegations against someone a group of voters happened not to like and accusations against a proven criminal with a 7+ decade history of fraudulent and criminal behavior, from an assault on a baby at age 5, to illegal discrimination in rental housing, to stiffing contractors, to fraudulently overvaluing his property for credit purposes and undervaluing it for tax purposes, to rape, to 34 felony convictions for offenses related to the theft of the 2016 election.

And those are just a sample from before he took office the first time. I can’t even begin to get started on the crimes he has committed since then. The murder count in the Caribbean alone is up to 83. How anyone can seriously believe he didn’t cheat is utterly beyond me.

He WILL steal 2026 if we don’t stop him.

That’s why, despite knowing he’d lost, he’s stuck to the narrative. His cult believes it and will enforce that if the 2024 election was corrupted then so was 2020.

The cult paid to audit Arizona which resulted in more Biden votes. Why aren’t the Dems paying to audit Pennsylvania? Because they already know!!

The ongoing threat to all of them being banished is one element of the problem, the other one is that our news media is/has been bought up by the most amoral corrupt buckets of money on the planet.

If we had truly independent institutions of journalism, they might take up this kind of a solution to drumpfy's behavior: Each outlet would intentionally make the role of WH correspondent an endless line of one-shot reporters...they ask the questions that should be asked, get banned, and replaced by another soul who will ask the same "rude" questions!

For example, "Mr. Pres. you just repeated a lie you've been saying over and over again about {pick any subject, he lies about everything}, do you ever feel ashamed for lying to the American people this way?" OR "Mr. Trump, you clearly show signs of both dementia and serious psychopathic symptoms, wouldn't it be in the best interest of the nation, if you stepped down and sought help at an asylum?" ~ and keep asking these questions (though better worded than my off the cuff examples!), and, yes, he'd eventually ban all press coverage...but that would, we hope, help those of us at the next election get the numbers out, so we can start dealing with the real problems our species are facing, which first and foremost, are the ones that have been the focus of the rest of the world at COP30.

You spoke volumes in your short comment. The answer to your question as to why there’s generalized acceptance of tRump’s exceedingly malignant narcissism is twofold. First, tRump’s level of malignant narcissism is so malevolently destructive that, when properly assessed & diagnosed by well-trained professionals in the psychiatric/psychological sciences, the dangerous malignant narcissist is usually restrained (locked up) in a facility where he cannot harm himself or others; never to be seen by the general public. When his malevolence is directed at you, and there are others in the vicinity who witness it, all are unprepared & react viscerally with shock & horror & are inclined to run away (quit) from the malignant narcissist. Second, those who commiserate closely with tRump may be naive and easily duped; or may suffer from similar afflictions as tRump and hope to gain (money, power, love etc) by their association with him.
