For me, this is the most important line of this important piece: "It is long past time that we stop imputing some deeper or reasonable motives to Donald Trump." I am beginning to lose my mind listening to news programs blindly, cowardly, or cluelessly try to ascribe adult or reasonable motives to Donald's actions. Everything he does is just a spasm coming from his desperate pathology, astonishing stupidity, and the quick rotting of the 2 or 3 brain cells he might have once had. I feel like every newscast should have a chyron across the bottom of the screen that says "Today, noises came out of the hole at the bottom of Trump's face" because that's the level of meaning they have. In fact, the only real meaning his words have is an endless revealing of his pathology, stupidity, and senility.

RRiveter's avatar

What's even more incomprehensible is that Congress members support his stupidity, when they absolutely know that everything this "thing" says is unconstitutional garbage. This was the same man that went nuts with our involvement in Afghanistan which was a no win situation. And now, what does he do, in one of the most anti-American, anti-liberty countries in the Middle East? I mean, really? Iran may be weakened, but they have powerful allies. Did he even think about that???

I think we need to listen carefully to what Mary wrote. You referred to Donald as the "same man." I try to remember that he is not a man because a man has a soul. I refer to him as one of the most destructive organisms that has ever been in a position of power. Also, at the end, you wrote "Did he even think about that???" No, he didn't think about it, not because he didn't take it into account, but because labeling anything that goes on inside that head as "thinking" is, exactly to Mary's point, imputing something to Donald that he doesn't/can't do. I think the term "sane-washing" is way too mild for what goes on.

I believe Donald Trump is being 'used' playing a role because I believe he has a 'Personality DISORDER & THE VERY 'REASON' those came up with this PLAN NEEDED SOMONE WITH HIS ISSUES to be able to scam the PEOPLE separate them & go after the Media next & so on. Not sure if Mary may have mentioned something to that effect (?); however, other professional have. I recall the first time I went to my Representative & the 'pat' response from him I then noticed others were getting form their Reps. same thing - that was the first of many time odd & red flags started going up for me about all of this from the very beginning and I so hoped I was wrong . My response to what that Representatives put forth tht he thought anyone would go along with this & that was " oh, it simply personality" as if, no problem look beyond & look at how great this President really is. I recall saying "what? and personality (?) : only if you mean "personality disorder" ! I at that point realized of course they wanted him inposition as President in 2016 I believe Mary could explain the 'danger' of someone that has that DISORDER. It was inevitable so many actually are so committed to him; really believe HIM & REASON he can sound so 'honest'.....I think Mary could explain why people who have this issue are people to 'run' from . I just HOPE somehow this can be turned around as the future these people in our Govt now want is not going to be good for our Country,; destroying our Fed Gove and oh so sad & destructive OUR Constitution will be NEXT, wanting to alienate our Allies , be a cancer for our World & especially do damage to WE THE PEOPLE. :-(

Aussie here 🦘

I understand that voting in the USA is a choice and that at the last federal election 40% of those who were eligible to vote, didn't. What I read/saw online is that many of those people saw their NOT voting as a protest.

Protesting against what, I don't know. Maybe someone could educate me about that specific issue please.

I'm wondering if any of these non-voters were part of the peaceful protestors recently. If they didn't vote then why are they upset about what government they got?

Well, these are the people who NEED to vote along with everyone else at EVERY election on any level from School Boards to Dog Catcher right through to the highest levels. Remember that the 'Moms of Liberty' are ensuring they eventually have every School board across the country under their control. It's a citizen's apathy/indifference towards voting which allows those with insidious agendas to silently slide into place and exert controll.

Voting OUT the members of Congress who voted for his bills and confirmed his judges, his cabinet etc is the only way to get rid of these liars & manipulators.

After that, petitions to elected members in office and peaceful protests to bring forward other objections you have about policies and/or the people who are in so called power should rout out the corruption. In a democracy the VOTERS have the power!

It's so refreshing to read someone else see's CONGRESS goes along with all this both parties it recently occurred to me. They do me are more responsible & not just the used to GOP but no longer. Congress abdicated their Constitutional responsibility to this ugh sad man President who basically I believe clueless as to the real ISSUES ; chose to be the scape goat, so to speak & being directed by none other than Mr. Russell Vought who this President appointed to the Office of Director of 'Management & Budget" for our Country; he being 1 of 2 co-authors of such a destructive scheming "con the PEOPLE" Project & who is the "chief proponent of the Theory that Donald Trump voted in as President of our USA can essentially eliminate CONGRESS (WITH congress BLESSING obviously enablers and schemers themselves - PATHETIC) plan was & working to eliminate 'their' role in US Gov't & also provide this President the option his own decisions alone can defund anything they say to do on his own say so even though that is NOT what our Constitution was remotely ever set up for . Never seen or heard or read how twisting interpretations to fit what and how they NOW are being enabled to allow a President with obvious personal issues who seem to now enjoy playing 'dangerous' 'game' of 'toy solder' like these are not real people but little plastic toy to be played with & He gets to be the GENERAL. It's so destructive and damaging and should by now after all the years of THIS be obvious what the 'game ' is and so insulting to the very intelligence of THE PEOPLE. The "People:" I wonder if know how THEY REALLY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE & not just go along & encouraged what is occurring which is so obvious now. The People CAN make a good difference but if not start and continue will lose that opportunity & be brought down to worse than just 'FINAICIAL PROVERTY' but much worse by this now no longer qualified any longer, lost their W A Y & worse within our CONGRESS. WITHIN BOTH PARTIES. There seem(?) so few genuine any longer. Dems at 2l % Polling? That's not ever realistic months now and THEY DON'T DO A DAMNED THING NOT REALLY !!!! That's too odd. I keep hopeing it's some plan unfortunately seems more they going along with the once GOP & that's sick and owrse if they are.

Thank you, you took the quote right out of my fingertips! However, the dreadful thoughts that quickly followed as I read this the first time was: what about The Heritage Foundation, though, in terms of "imputing some deeper or reasonable motives?" He is foul-mouthed, cruel, lacking in moral or ethical values, & inconsiderate of others, yet, as is common with many sociopaths, he can be charming when that benefits him. He lacks meaningful vision. He is motivated only by self-agrandizement & enrichment. His proclivity for lying knows no bounds & I'm often hard pressed to see any evidence that he is any longer able to separate facts from his own fantasies. I have transitioned myself to stop thinking of him & his followers as a Party, but rather as a cult with cultivated followers. You—the people—fighting for your country and for democracy: yes, you have allies. You have the support of all of us who still believe in democratic foundations. I’m German, living in Germany, and many here—especially in the western part of the country—have not forgotten how your nation helped rebuild ours after the war. That bond still means something.

And yet, some of us quietly hope that once this regime is no longer in power, you won’t simply return to business as usual. We hope you’ll finally begin the long-overdue conversation about renewing a Constitution that, as it stands, leaves more than 80% of your citizens out in the cold—while the other 20% keeps dancing, funded by that very exclusion.

We’re watching. We’re hoping. And many of us still believe you can rise to meet the moment.

And maybe—finally—make civil and human rights truly inalienable. Not handed out like medals that can be revoked when inconvenient. I’d invite anyone thinking seriously about a constitutional update to start with what’s been standard almost everywhere else for decades—even in countries that aren’t democracies: public healthcare, no child labor, paid sick leave, paid vacation.

And yes, a system that no longer thrives on exploiting 80% of its people so the wealthiest can get even richer—while everyone else wonders how to afford groceries, housing, or medical care.

You’re absolutely right, David. Voting rights matter. And so does the dignity of daily life.

Can't you be arrested for offending someone in Germany?

Expand full comment
Wild Lion*esses Pride by Jay's avatar

Heather, I live in Germany and feel really grounded answering this. The short version: no, you don’t get arrested simply for offending someone. That idea floats around a lot internationally and often misses how the legal structure actually works.

There are specific laws around insult or defamation—especially when it involves hate speech, Holocaust denial, or targeted (right-wing )abuse—but these aren’t about protecting someone’s feelings. They’re rooted in protecting human dignity and social peace, especially given our history. They could be violating constitutional frameworks and are criminal offenses, not simple defamations.

People speak freely here. We protest, we criticize, we argue publicly. What’s different is the baseline: rights come with shared responsibility. So speech that incites violence or degrades human dignity (especially toward minorities or historically persecuted groups) has limits. And honestly, that feels like a strength to me—not censorship, just a different center of gravity.

Yes, he's broken God knows how many international laws and has probably knocked any diplomatic solution back to the Stone Age. Making life incredibly difficult for the REAL deal makers.

Also, and also importantly, he's just broken American Constitutional Law by ( virtually) declaring war on another country without getting the approval of Congress. ( literally on his own say so)

Only Congress can declare war and it must be by vote. The President has no such power or ability to LEGALLY commence hostilities without Congressional approval.

This will be a nightmare for America's Supreme Court in a myriad of ways. ( That will be interesting to see how they deal with that can of worms. Let alone the international backlash.).

I can only wish! I remember people used to say “someone needs to take one for the greater good” my god I wishful is all can say. I NEVER dislike more of Americans than I do right now!! Article I posted on Blue Sky that shows how many really voted for the idiot in WH 29% voted for dumbass out 340,million 77million voted for the felon! The rest stayed home voted for another, stayed home. I will try to find post on SUBSTACK Now I can’t remember numbers but there was Starlinks at play in several swing states DJT even stated he didn’t need votes if wasn’t for Musk Trump would’ve not won his words.

So bomb threats in GA 3 polling place people could go back to vote. All dem Counties, Tx right before presidential election Tx Corrupt Ken Paxton deleted over 1000+ voter registration saying they were dead or sound illegal. When hundreds started calling wanting to know what happened no good answers. Most horrible thing was his disgusting raids on Latino org head treated 80y old woman with distain by raiding her house at 6am saying she was illegally get voters to register hmm why she help people understand how to file their voters reg no one could vote in American if they we not CITZEN. It’s really unclear why Paxton chose that group who formed in 1960s most like because most might vote Democrat but nothing was ever share. Now Paxton time is up he running for Senate? Wow to replace? Cruz? Comer? Or Crockett he’s been indicted, 8 Tx assist Attorneys filed charges against him it drug on for year then disappeared. Gov is as bad as Paxton these guys don’t win elections they cheat. The entire Tx republicans are as fake and corrupt as djt. It’s sure odd that only Rep win Gov and AG! Cruz was AG boy did Tx make him money. They have no Electric grid that’s why 220 Texan died 1 winter while Cruz flew to Cancun. These republicans are all Corrupt how they get away with it makes me sick. They game is the same Create Chaos and Distractions like thru Obama the hell they gave he and Michelle made angry. They hated he was smart, articulate, knew what he was doing even wearing a tan suit God Forbid. Then Biden same thing now Americans are suffering for Republicans Corruption we will continue until the most corrupt President we’ve ever had in our History why because he can’t take responsible for his action. He will destroy all aspects of his crimes again. Republicans who flew to Hungary in early 2024 should be looked into their actions. I believe DJT is and will continue using ORBANS playbook to become full Dictator unless we stop DJT & VANCE remove both from office. That’s the only way we get out of this mess. In the case of Netanyahu, being free is a massive burden. When he flies somewhere, he takes twice as long to get there as he must avoid airspace from multiple countries where his plane can be forced to land and he can be arrested. He lives in fear, constantly of being assassinated. Just last week Iran threw a missile through his bedroom window. He wasn't there but they know his location. There are Iranian spies all over Israel, they arrest them as they find them.

I think this is far worse than sitting safe ish in a jail cell. He and his plane is a target at any moment, day or night.
