In the UK, we have backbenchers in every party who are decent people trying to do the best for their constituents, and are not trying to get power through cabinet positions. They are not there for their own political ends and ambitions, and when necessary will stand up to the party leaders and say “enough is enough”. Do such people not exist in your Republicans in Congress? Are they all Trump apparatchiks who actually believe what he says? Here in Massachusetts -- arguably the bluest state in the country -- the governor has to be careful how she combats ICE, because she knows d*mn well that if push comes to shove, the state po-po do not have her back. Other Democratic governors know the same thing -- they can talk a big game about fighting back, but the cops are on the other side. If you went to the police chief in some big city and told them to arrest or block ICE, they'd say sorry, no can do.
Donald Trump is prima facie clinically psychotic, and one need not be psychiatrically trained to render that obvious judgment. All one needs is a rudimentary knowledge of the checklist for psychopathy laid over one's observations of his publicly available speech and behavior to apply the psychological nosology to his Potemkin performance as president. Doing so should be sufficient to gin up a mass demand that warrants pressure for his immediate removal from power.
