Thank you Mary for covering this issue so thoroughly. I have no respect for the current Supreme Court. I have not watched the hearings; not because of time constraints but because my blood pressure rises to unhealthy levels every time a GOP idiot starts spewing their racist BS. I did see Bookers’ speech on the news and it brought tears to my eyes. It should have brought shame to those GOP senators but they’re all beyond redemption.

Thank you, Mary, for your post on the Supreme Court.

I am voting for Democrats in the November 2022, election.

I did not know the dark history of the Supreme Court that you mention..

I watched coverage of Ketanji Brown Jackson's hearing yesterday afternoon and this afternoon.

The truly terrifying thing is that half the country nodded its collective head in approval at their bigoted posturing.

Hannah S Wilder Wiseheart's avatar

I think less than half but even 25% is horrifying. Mostly in the South but no longer confined to it.

Thank you for this. All of this. I only got to see late afternoon/evening yesterday, but between that and the highlight reels it was enough. So flagrant and disgraceful. I agree, there have to be significant consequences. Dems better step up to the challenge.

Rhonda, It was Flagrant and Disgraceful, But on Brighter Side is we have this all

THIS:

"They had the gall to interrupt her time after time after time, this woman who is more accomplished, more worthy, more intelligent, and more American than these mediocre white men who have done nothing but fail upwards for their entire lives ever could be."

Perfectly stated.

This is so common an experience for women, and doubly so for women of color. What a difference from the Kavanaugh hearing, where nobody interrupted him when he talked about how he loved beer!. Some of this comes from her reminding trump's attys that the president is not a king. My heart (from an abolitionist white Quaker family that worked on the Underground Railroad) will dance a jig when she is confirmed. I can't wait to see her on the bench!

The Republicans get more nervous as year goes on, AND Then They Come out and look totally stupid and insane in Hearings, Let's Go To Town, And Vote All democratic this year, convince our friends and keep congress with larger Majority Folks

The current systems in place do not allow for the "Court" to be balanced the way it should be. My great hope is for a miracle to happen and Democrats will come out of hiding and vote for the democratic ticket, from top to bottom, State, Federal, and all local elections. But, I know hope doesn't hold water. Thank you, Mary for your words of wisdom, they carry me through the day.

Any one who possibly can should work to GOTV for the Democratic Vote, even texting. Please donate and plan your vacation so that you can work on the election from September through first week in November. Your work as a citizen really does matter.

"Republican Senators flew the flag of white nationalism openly, unabashedly. and they need to be punished for it." This is the least of it; the men who interrupted Judge Jackson showed no respect, clarifying the meaning of systemic racism at its core. Might a scene from this hearing be incorporated into election bids? Come on Democratic campaign staffs, please clarify what is at stake this Nov. election in ads, statements and town hall meetings..

EXCELLENT, we must use these tapes, quotes to campaign with, my sentiments exactly Judith, Love Peace Respect

Just sent Sen. Booker a Tweet & thanked him for his magnificent words to Judge Jackson today. She is indeed the harbinger-of-hope, as we journey toward that more perfect union. I also thanked him for reminding us that we can't let the hateful fools, steal our joy.

God bless them both.

The exchange between Cory Booker and Judge Jackson was like a healing balm to her soul and to all of our souls as we watched him act as "Rev. Booker" in a moment when she and the nation needed a compassionate pastor. He turned the spotlight to her parents and their love for her, then to her children and her love for them. And then like a African shaman, he reminded her of her ancestors and how they are with her now and always would be. Tears of relief and release came from Ketjani and from all of us watching who were weary of her being "followed around the store so that she wouldn't shoplift."

Great Comprehension Carolyn, I'll say no more!

Ted Cruz, Lyndsey Graham, et al are disgraceful. They put 2 sexual predators and one eminently unqualified person on the Court and they have the gaul to treat Judge Jackson with great disrespect. Kavanaugh’s performance at his hearing was disqualifying on its face. Judge Jackson has shown patience and grace throughout and is eminently qualified. I can easily imagine how the Repugs would respond if she were to act indignantly as Kavanaugh did.

Mary As I read 1619 Project for first time, Im Floored at how much relevant legal data you have on SCOTUS in this newsletter, The Warren Burger Decisions I wasn't aware of, Do you have a bachelors in Law, You are excellent at translating Legal Data For All People Interested. My Hopes for 2022 and beyond is We Will Vote Democratic Majortiy in Both House Of Congress and Rewrite These " Traps" in Law by Congressional Acts, Plus Add at least 2, you say 4, New Supreme Court Justices, after we establish Majority, Big New Twist: Mo Brooks is far behind in Alabama Polls For House Seat, Now, He's Talking Openly To Jan 6th Committee, EVEN WHEN SEDITIONISTS TURN THEIR COLOR AND TALK, WE CANNOT FORGET THEIR ROLES IN JAN 6TH, LOVE PEACE RESPECT FRIENDS

I found it deeply disturbing that these Republicans were allowed to shout down and interrupt this excellent candidate for the Supreme Court, not even permitting her to answer their irrelevant questions. Is there nobody to discipline these awful people? It's unbearable to watch.

You express my opinion of the hearings perfectly — and the Court citations prove it. Thank you!
