The bastard has no bottom. It will take centuries for America to live this down, if there still is an America, and not just a gigantic smoking hole in the ground.

How in the world are we taking seriously a person who is this sick? He is absolutely the sickest person I have ever seen. Can Americans not tell the difference between sickness and health? Because if they can't, *they* need serious intervention.

Your country needs, needs, needs universal healthcare, it would help so much to have people get the medical care they need without fear of bankruptcy, it is sooo harsh to imagine being afraid of the cost of healthcare versus getting help, it is NOT socialism, it is societal well being and prevents people from falling prey to cults that offer an exploiting sense of security.

The legacy media and newspapers are trying to influence the public to accept fascism as a normal life for Americans. We aren't falling for the bullshit no matter how Trump tried to rebrand himself. He has released a child trafficker.

I was responding to Wendy Arnold saying " he has released a child trafficker " meaning Ghislaine .. I thought maybe I'd missed something!!!

Sooo happy to see the CEO of that prison program for servicedog training to publicly announce that Maxwell will NOT be participating in that program as they do not place puppies with abusers!!!

No puppy for you bitch!! Does not deserve that love 😸

When I looked up the camp it said that it is not even fenced in and they have had inmates just walk off before, so , yeah, in a way he might have put her somewhere she could go awol pretty easily. I think she is a liability to him tho and we will learn of some dreadful accident or ?? in the near future. Or maybe he's going to help her out of the country and pay for facial reconstruction and her silence. But how do you trust her really?

Couldn't she sell her story and double cross him? So nah.

She's prob a goner... meanwhile Ghislaine will prob snuggle up to that young woman doing time in that camp for selling that fake medical app,or device was it ? White collar criminals in there.

And sadly, none of the victims of Epstein / Maxwell /orange guy will ever see justice til we get back in power.

“It’s not clear to me that the colleges have done something wrong by agreeing to cede power to a man who was so vile, so traitorous, so un-American, so anti-American, so unfit, so corrupt, so incompetent, so unhinged, so wrong, so grotesque…”"

I agree with that characterization of trump, but Leonhardt didn't say any of that.

The point is that Mary Trump misrepresents the entire article in her quest to paint Donald as the fascist dictator that he no doubt is. With that being said, though, we gain nothing by stooping t his level and spreading slander and lies in the same way he does.

The article Mary refers to is actually a very complex and thoughtful discussion about the position that Harvard, Brown, Columbia, and others find themselves in due to the current administration's efforts to control their curricula. The point is made that, when faced with the withholding of massive amounts of federal research aids and grants, these institutions are now forced to make a terrible choice between the long-term and the short-term: Do they agree to sacrifice some of their independence in order to regain federal funding, or do they decide to do without the federal funding and maintain their independence? Either way, enormous damage is likely to be done. Also on their minds is, how trustworthy of Trump? If we make an agreement with him, will he honor it, or will he just come back at some point to extort more money from us? These are very real considerations, and I applaud the Times panel for discussing them at length.

At no point in the article does anyone suggest simply bowing to Trump, as Mary implies. They all realize that this is a terrible situation caused entirely by a terrible president who delights in breaking the law and trampling on the Constitution. The very real questions here, however, are about weighing the damage to the present and future of these institutions, the vital research they perform, and the current and future students they serve. It sounds to me like Mary read a headline she didn't like, found a couple of out-of-context pull quotes to rile up her audience, and called it a day. Very disappointing from someone we all know can do better. Yes, let's call out the Emperor for having no close, but let's not lie and deceive to do so.

If the institutions can afford to survive without uS Govt $ then the correct thing is to stand up against tyranny. The ones who can't ??? reassess after the midterm& 2028.??

They are in a tough position.

We are in a tough position.

On top of this is the fact that the gop has changed student loan funding. So really only wealthy students will be able to get a secondary education.

The many many harms he is doing to us as a nation make me sick especially since they all pretend to be Christian . The ballroom plans are one thing, but to be sure there's construction going on in hell making room for this batch who def will need their own "special place in hell"

I didn't miss the point of the article, but I might have missed the point of why Mary Trump says that Leonhardt says things he didn't say. Maybe it was meant to be satire but if so, I don't get it, even after repeated readings. (I also don't get why you feel the need to be snarky.) And it felt very misleading to me (I actually went and listened to the podcast precisely because she seemed to be literally reporting what had been said). The right generates enough fake news for both sides; we don't need to do it too.

My quote was from the transcript. I later went and listened to the video, and she didn't say "He continues:", which completely changes the context. So the transcript is wrong (and problematic), and somebody (Mary Trump, presumably) should fix it.

Her entire take on the article she criticizes is misleading and deceptive.

We criticize the Right - and rightly so - for believing everything they're told without critical thought. We can't allow ourselves to do the same thing. Read the article for yourselves and see if you agree with Mary's analysis.
