What a refreshing, shockingly delightful break from politics! Thank you, Mary!!

Four Women by Nina Simone. Play it twice. That’s my twofer. 🧐

I'm a huge Nina Simone fan.

Love, 'My Baby Just Cares For Me.'

Thank you! I don't spend nearly enough time listening to Nina. Time to fix that.

I discovered Nina Simone through Bowie’s version of this.

Choosing a favorite Ella's song is like attempting to pick one's favorite child...and I'm not even a mother. "Someone to Watch Over Me" is up there, her virtuosity in "C-Jam Blues" as she tosses riffs back and forth with band soloists is stunning.

Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered, all 7 amazing minutes!

Thank you so much for the Ella. That Mack the Knife is a killer!

I will listen to anything Ella anytime, anywhere. Currently obsessed with You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To.

I mean what did Ella do that wasn't perfection. I can only go with what I'm currently learning, so my second half of the twofer is all her versions of I'm Beginning to See the Light.

I absolutely love the Indigo Girls and my two favorite songs of theirs are Closer to Fine and Watershed.

I love Ella Fitzgerald too. Wanted to make that clear.

For me it’s “The History of Us.”

I have been convinced for years that if I ever get to heaven (highly unlikely, but who knows?), I will be greeted by the sound of Ella singing. As you note, her voice is pure like no other's. Two of my very favorites: "Hard-Hearted Hannah" and "My One and Only Love."

I love her version of Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered

I’m just happy there are people who know how amazing Ella Fitzgerald is. If we are doing Ella, “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “It’s Only a Paper Moon.” My twofer nomination is “This Boy” and “I Feel Fine” by the Beatles.

Thanks for this blissfully delightful departure from the horrors that assault us daily.

I became familiar with Ella Fitzgerald’s exquisite lilting voice from my mother playing her albums.

The music of the 60s is my default. Two of the scores of songs that stop me in my tracks any day anywhere any time are “In My Life” by The Beatles and “I Only Wanna Be With You” by Dusty Springfield.

Your opening sentence made me laugh out loud. Then I remembered it was true so I quietly fed the cats and made coffee.

Ahhh, love Ella, thank you for this!

I was in college at the start of the 80s, too. Music was, and still remains, all encompassing in my life. Everything from Witchita Lineman to Mr. Brightside, The Weight to Jagged Little Pill, and Red Dirt Road to Over the Hills and Far Away… Music has guided me through life, and I am grateful for every single day I can hit a button and play a song that transports me back! Thanks Mary! What a lovely diversion from the tweets I woke up to this morning!

Ella was brilliant. Her gift was truly one of a kind. If you haven't caught this doc yet, Ella Fitzgerald: Just One Of Those Things" do yourself a favor and watch. Her life wasn't easy but she sure made it all look effortless!
