There are 13 US Circuit Courts, organized mostly by geography. Accordingly, we should have 13 US Supreme Court Justices, one per each circuit, ideally appointed to represent their constituents. No political appointees allowed. How hard is that to rationally consider?
Yes, we can impeach at least two for obviously corrupt practices in accepting payments. But understand that impeachment itself is only the first step. Actual removal would require a 2/3 vote in the Senate - and that’s not going to happen. So of all the options, that is the least likely to succeed.
A Democratic President with an appointed Attorney General could investigate the justices for tax evasion, racketeering, conspiracy, ... . That is 3 years away unfortunately, and much harm can continue to be done to our democracy and decent human rights.
Does Moses Johnson think it was grossly abused when wealthy Russian mommies stayed in his Master's properties when they came to this country for Birth Tourism? I'm betting "that was different."
ARTHUR: The Lady of the Lake, [singing] her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. [singing stops] That is why I am your king!
DENNIS: Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
Did Johnson specialize in Constitutional law at LSU? It's a bit concerning that any attorney, let alone one versed in the Constitution, thinks that one can abuse a right.
Too many Americans distracted by bread and theater...never knowing an assault like this coming to destroy its way of life. It's our lesson to be learned.. if enough of us wake up in time.
Yes, a win on birthright citizenship, but that any one of those dissenting justices could sign on to that load of babbling garbage Thomas threw together - probably written by AI - is so utterly disgusting. I tend to think my dog understands the Constitution better than a few of our SCOTUS justices, based on the horse hockey and apparent errata put forth in that pitiful, idiotic dissent.
I’d almost be willing to end birthright citizenship if it could be a means of stripping Donald of his citizenship and sending him to…well, pretty much any country he deems to be a “shit hole” nation. Almost. I’d hate to bring harm upon so many innocent people. I do appreciate your idea of adding justices. It’s the only way I can think to end this scourge.
I confess that I hadn’t thought too deeply about expanding the court. My age is indicated by my having been a classmate of Justice Blackmun’s daughters. I stand admonished. Thank you.
Wow! Mary, thank you for that call to action! The current Roberts 6 are a clutch of appalling human beings, all put into office by Republican presidents for a purpose, to shut down the opposition and to make it possible for Republicans to ultimately rule indefinitely. In addition, Thomas was appointed as a slap in the face to Black Americans, a white wannabee who only claimed his "blackness" when he thought it got him some points with Black America. Barrett was appointed because she is a woman who resents other women and thinks she is superior to all of us. I wonder how long they had to look to find such a simpering female to replace a true hero, Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
The racism, misogyny, and anti-constitutionalism of the Roberts 6 are evident in every decision. The blather they use to reinterpret the constitution for the benefit of the very rich, the white male part of the population, and whoever they think will get them more power is outrageous.
I am for the SC reforms you suggest. I also think the ethics code must have penalties for bad behavior from the justices, say, suspension for a year for the first offense. Also the SC should never be able to overturn a law that was unanimously passed by Congress and signed by the president, unless that vote was found to be coerced. Roberts did it to the Voting Rights Act and probably others I am not aware of. Then to overturn precedent, the vote of the justices needs to be unanimous. Those are just a couple of the additions I would make.
Glad you called out Kavanaugh. Already Donald has called for Congress to pass a law revoking birthright citizenship along the lines Kavanaugh would approve. Astonishing.

Can we impeach these traitors and racists? Is there any way to get rid of them? They are ruining our country.

A real, active Congress (which means outnumbering the Republicans) could do a lot on 2 years. So vote blue and get others to do the same.

One of your best commentaries, Mary. Judicial reform must be a rallying cry in 2026 and 2028.
“ARTHUR: I am your king!
WOMAN: Well, I didn’t vote for you.
ARTHUR: You don’t vote for kings.
WOMAN: Well, ‘ow did you become king then?
ARTHUR: The Lady of the Lake, [singing] her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. [singing stops] That is why I am your king!

Almost forgot my favorite:
DENNIS: Well you can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just ’cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
😆😆

Thank you for the article, Mary. We’re intact.
... for now.

Everyone over the age of 18 needs to take the same citizenship test as immigrants seeking naturalization. Donald, Miller, and JD first.

Same here ~ Rochester MN (?)
Statement of ethics, term limits (18 years), expand the court to 13. That will work.
Good luck with them passing🙄😂
