Smartest thing to do is have the streets empty while Marines and ICE are in LA. Make trump look like a fool.

Sitting down in streets, creating zero violence is the way right now to show what is true and real.

FYI- Maybe you're too young to remember the Chicago Democratic Convention of 1968, but you might want to do a little research on that event before advising such a course of action.

I know I'm OLD... but I got a little wisdom with that process.

Bradley - Would you be kind enough to drop a few pointers on the practical side of being in protests in the current climate? My participation has been relatively limited up to now. Thanks!

1.) Maintain Constant Situational Awareness

2.) Identify Multiple Viable Venues of Available Retreat

3.) Monitor Communication Devices for Intel on Evolving Situations

4.) Bond Out All Fellow Protestors Arrested in Any Lawful Protest Action

5.) Show up for the After-Party (and maybe get yourself laid?)

Thank you! Between your advice and an old friend or two with experience in civil disobedience who will keep me in line, I’ll give it a try.

Oh, in case you hadn’t already heard, the state of California sued Trump and Hegseth today for their orders seeking to federalize the California National Guard. The Posse Comitatus Act you mentioned is referred to in paragraph 10.

I don't know if Bradley was actually there or not but I was and I saw a lot of people being violent in Grant Park --which is where the police went after protesters and why. They did not go after people like my friend and me because: 1: We were NOT being violent, we were just observing 2: We had gone there to do volunteer work for Democrats who were stationed at a hotel across the street and we went into the park just to see what was happening there, and 3: We were 16 years old and our parents would only let us go there alone if we did not dress like hippies and if we acted like ladies. I think that made an impact because the police asked us what we were doing there and then protected us from the violence as they helped us to safely get back to the hotel. So I do think that being peaceful or passive can make a huge difference if you don't want to be seen as threatening and/or get targeted by police or military.

YMan's avatar

People have to know who their enemy is, because targeting like minded folks is a huge mistake.

In 68, protesters set off stink bombs throughout the day at the hotel where Democrats were meeting, and we couldn't breath --which is another reason why we went outside to the park. But I didn't understand what was up --did the protesters think that Republicans and Nixon were going to make things a lot better? Big gamble!

Less than a week later, I was tired from walking home from my distant high school and decided to wait for a public bus instead and because there were no benches at bus stops then, I sat down on the curb since it was not at a busy intersection. Then a squad car came by and the police stopped and started yelling at me for doing that. I was wearing my hippie clothes then, as well as a black arm band, and I suspected that was probably why they saw me so differently that day from when I was dressed and acted like a lady in Grant Park, since I didn't think it was illegal to sit on a curb. Believe it or not, this is not about supporting the police. It's about their perceptions of people that are based on appearance and actions, so folks know that looking and behaving in accordance with what's considered acceptable can make a significant difference, as I learned from those experiences.

That’s backing down and giving in. Americans have the right to peacefully protest. They need to jump all over anyone in their crowd that becomes violent and stop them, turning them in if necessary. This deployment is bs. We saw this in 68 re Vietnam and with the Panther protests. It was deplorable then and is now!

He's the one breaking the laws. We're all watching him break more laws over and over and nobody will arrest him for anything. He has never been held accountable for his long list of crimes. He should be in prison, NOT in the White House .

A 34 time convicted felon calling for law and order in LA is hilarious!

Trump is trying to provoke a situation where he can declare Martial Law and suspend the Constitution. This is key to become the dictator he dreams of.

The consequences caused by giving a convicted felon immunity are showing up everywhere... 🤦‍♀️
