Smiley John Roberts has pretty much established himself at the top of the list of great American traitors. No one in our history has gutted our constitution as this man has. The others betrayed our country in various ways-this man has betrayed it's foundation, the very thing he swore to protect.

You could fill a double album with the astonishing decisions the Roberts court has made (and not made) to kill democracy and strip rights

Citizens United

Shelby

Dobbs

The refusal to see gerrymandering as a judicial issue.

He’s been hellbent to kill the Voting Rights Act since his days under Reagan.

He likely has a hard on now that it’s in sight.

And I don’t think they are done. They will rip away gay marriage. They will roll back the Civil Rights Act.

At the end of the day, the absolute worst decision was the Immunity Decision.

Slow walking it kept the courts from holding Trump accountable. Then they compounded it worse than anyone feared by essentially giving the president a blank check.

Roberts thought he was slick by giving SCOTUS the right to define an ‘official act’. Trump has chewed through that leash.

The only solace is that Trump knows he doesn’t have to answer to SCOTUS because he will flaunt the fact they have no actual enforcement power when Trump controls the DOJ.

Pretty much neutering his beloved court. Just like Trump neutered McConnell’s beloved Senate.

Both men had the power to stop him and instead got played.

It runs much deeper than McConnell.

Federalists Society, Heritage Foundation and Project 2025 is now controlling this process:

“The Federalist Society is linked to Project 2025 and the Supreme Court through its long-standing influence over conservative judicial appointments. While the society is not officially a Project 2025 partner, many organizations and individuals involved in the project have strong ties to the conservative legal network. Critics describe Project 2025 as seeking to exploit the judicial groundwork laid by years of conservative appointments to further its policy goals.”

“Concentrating executive power: The plan proposes a controversial interpretation of "unitary executive theory," aiming to centralize power under the president. Critics allege that a court majority sympathetic to this theory is critical for the executive branch to implement the plan's agenda without traditional constitutional checks and balances.”

“Overturning precedent: The plan explicitly anticipates using a supportive judiciary to reverse civil and human rights laws, potentially impacting areas like reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and civil rights enforcement. The overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022 is cited by critics as a successful outcome of this strategy.”

That’s because McConnell is complicit. He couldn’t unilaterally appoint anyone to SCOTUS. He was a puppet. Part of P2025 is to BREAK PRECEDENT. And that’s exactly what he did, because he supports the agenda.

There are very powerful people BEHIND what’s happening right now. They are calling the shots. And P2025 IS being implemented right now. Through republicans and the trump administration.

Again--he was, as Leader of the majority in the senate, the only one who could set the floor agenda. None of those "very powerful people" was in the position to do that particular thing.

And while you’re focused on the past, you’re missing the big picture of what’s unfolding right now, before our eyes. And WHY it’s happening, ie the implementation of P2025. But thankfully most do understand exactly what’s happening right now, in real time. Including Mary Trump.

So now it’s up to us, we the people, to unite and stand firm against this insanity, this madness, this tyrannical dictator wannabe. Right now.

.

From July 2024:

“Following Donald Trump's recent statement that he has "nothing" to do with the conservative Project 2025, his estranged niece, Mary Trump, wrote on Friday that the former president appears "quite worried" Americans will "find out the truth" about the proposed initiative.

“Created by right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation, Project 2025 is a 900-page document of proposed policies for a future Republican administration. It aims to remove civil service employment protections for thousands of federal employees so they can be fired and replaced with Republican loyalists.

“In addition to proposing sweeping right-wing changes to the federal government, including eliminating the Department of Education, reducing the scope of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, a number of former Trump administration officials are linked to Project 2025. A total of 31 contributors who served at various levels in and around Trump's administration have been linked to the project, sparking speculation of Trump's involvement.”

And did I just miss the screams rebounding around the country that were coming from Congress? Or was it just another day. If we don’t stop hearing bitching from the Senate as we’ve heard from a few representatives not a damn one of them deserves to be there no matter who or how many supported them. The president announces and rubs in our faces in his literally crazy news conferences every day. The Senators? Not but one that I’ve seen and that is Adam Schiff. Yet he is the one who takes the President’s lip beatings every day yet continues. Chris Murphy is one I have seen a few times too. I praise them for that. If Dems don’t stand up and jump on the many opportunities that the online and written media offer them, they are our fools. They are worthless. Moreover many of them are pure cowards. I’m not voting to send a single person to the Senate who is a coward. And it can get worse. Your state, like mine, may send a jobless nonresident dumbbell to Congress who when first asked on camera could not name the three branches of government. That’s whose working for me?? I didn’t vote for him but he coached and very badly at Auburn. bUniversity for a very short period before he was fired because he couldn’t do that job either. But people knew his name. Not one other thing than his name - because he had zero qualifications other than “I’m with Trump”. The Dems need to make frequent appearances - like Pete Buttegieg (sp) does. He’s all over the place. And so is the elder of the Senate - Bernie Sanders- a man in his 80’s, while other younger are nowhere to be seen. Enough!!!! Are you just waiting for a genie to emerge from a lamp and announce who is going to actually organize and lead the Senate? If we don’t unify our message, as Southerners say, before the cows come home, we are going to lose the coming elections. All while the Republicans stand by and grift.

Any words can be valuable! Speak your heart, should your intellect be, as is often my problem, absolutely overwhelmed.

For me, too often there is simply too much to write abd/or talk about. It's a conversation without end, and most of the time, appearances are that half the country has no desire to even understand the fears and the grievances of the other half.

I'm of two minds about this:

Number one mind thinks I'd be largely wasting time explaining or, in the classic sense, arguing our side. I think the Constitution should be adequate argument, along with the Declaration of Independence, with the Articles of Confederation used as damming evidence of preexisting malice towards actual democracy and freedom.

But...can we afford to write off all of the people who have been duped, or await their political epiphanies to converse civilly? I think probably not.

As long as is humanly possible, we must include them in community, if but only to demonstrate our bona fides of equal justice and opportunity for contributing to society. We must rededicate ourselves to quality liberal arts education for everyone in this country who desires such. This is the basis of our system of government, and the root of the American values which saw us, rightly, enter WWII. These values aren't dead, but they need to be reaquired, reiterated, and emphasized as the core values that made the US the envy of the world, and a check on worldwide tyranny.

It should be an easy case to make, and if we use the right arguments time and time again, we will prosper as a society and as a species. The inequality of today is staggering, and this is easy to point out. If they want a return to the "Good ol' Days", we should absolutely point out that yes, average [white] Americans could have a decent living, buy a car, send their kids to college, take a vacation every year, and probably own a retirement home in old age--all on one income that didn't depend upon having an advanced degree, or influential friends from any party.

But wealthy business owners crushed unions, the very entities which brought the "American Dream" to so many. Now people are doubtful of paying off student loans in a lifetime.

It's easily documented how we lost so much, and which patty has sided with common person.

Just say it from the heart.

The founders of the United States had good intentions. But I think they made a huge mistake by not choosing the parliamentary system.

As I write this I am not sure how super PACs and the rest of it would impact a parliamentary government. Canada passed legislation to prevent this. Information is available at this site:

https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/party-financing

The parliamentary system makes it easier for a party, either in power, or out of power to say good-bye to a party leader who has overstayed his or her welcome.

In Canada Justin Trudeau was moved along and Mark Carney became the party leader and Prime Minister.

In England, Liz Truss got the boot real fast, (49 days) after presenting a disastrous budget.

Another advantage of the parliamentary system is that the heads of departments ( Ministers of health, defense, etc) are elected members of parliament. Therefore, FOX News types with no mandate and no knowledge could not be in charge of any aspect of government.

The parliamentary system also has the shadow government. Members of the opposition are in charge of the various portfolios and are able to lead for the opposition during question period.

Question period is when the two parties meet in parliament and the party in power must be accountable.

To be fair, there is no way that the founders of the US system could have anticipated the huge wealth of billionaires, the vast reach and control of the thinking of parts of the populace through social media, or anything else that is a normal part of life today, such as electricity.

They did their best. And perhaps in the United States with the vast corporate and billionaire wealth things would have worked out the same. Who knows?

"Justice" Alioto is Catholic;

"Justice" Gorsuch is Episcopalian but raised a Catholic;

"Justice" Jackson is Protestant.

Of 9 "Justices", 6 are Catholic at least in name, 2 are Jewish an d 1 is Protestant. I am nlt advocating that choices for appointment to the courts should be based for or against the candidate's religion, only that when decisions are rendered, understanding those decisions may be on conscious or subconscious learned moral thinking.

Although religion is not supposed to be a consideration, the moral outlook a person has is fundamentally based on the moral code in which they were raised. The Catholic church is against abortion and birth control. The current Pope has a more open position on not excluding divorced, homosexual, gay, lesbian and transgender participation in Catholic services.

When you read the New Testament try to find any reference to these in any of Christ's teachings or parables on these issues.. There aren't any. Good moral decisions are desirable but NOT WHEN THEY IMPINGE ON THE MORAL RIGHTS OF OTHERS unless their immoral or amoral behavior is damaging or potentially damaging to others such as adultery, theft, murder, sexual abuse, etc.

Mystery of why so many decisions of SCOTUS are what they are is solved.

The one I have problems with is allowing the President immoral and unconstitutional immunity.

"Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's", no matter how you look at it, doesn't mean Caesar is free from punishment for committing sin and injustice.
