Unfortunately, the people who could push back on him do not. All the rest of us can do is show our anger which he does not care about. What kind of power do we have that will make any difference? It’s like the Mafia is controlling the country.

Hound's avatar

This was a long time coming to America. A huge percent of Americans are morally depraved and the majority of them live in the Bible belt. If Trump said he wanted to bring back slavery those white Southerners would jump for joy.

What went wrong is that the people in this country who are supposed to serve us are not serving us and instead they are serving the corporate criminal elite members of the ruling class and the obscenely wealthy. America has been a vulgar nation for a long time which has degraded into something vulgar.

Capitol Hill is the epitome of corruption and it’s a kind of corruption that is very similar to Russia and the Roman empire before it fell. The people who swore out to the constitution to serve American people do not serve the American people. They serve themselves and they served their corporate masters when we the people are the rightful masters of Congress, the courts and the White House.

Hound, America's Deep South has reinforced its criminal, bigoted racist self which was dominant from Post Reconstruction until WWII (see PBS documentary 'Slavery by Another Name') and trump and his bigoted backers have spread this disease around the country (think Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Stephen Miller). John T. Milner was a founder of one Alabama railroad company pivotal in supplying coal and other resources to the Confederacy during the Civil War. One of Birmingham's founders, his industrial companies employed "emancipated" Southern Blacks essentially as slave laborers under hideous working conditions. He calmly stated, "why would I pay someone for their labor when I can just take it for the cost of their food and housing?" Many Southern Whites, as you say, would revel in this. Milner was thought by them to be one of the best and brightest of his time, but not by his re-enslaved charges. Like this, the trump regime is medieval in its brutality.

Hound's avatar

An American now we were all slaves to sun degree.

The confederacy was created so that filthy rich white people, the original one percent could keep free labor and continue their vulgar lifestyles.

Before reconstruction they should’ve been something called disinfection. Every slaveholder and every confederate officer should’ve been rounded up and executed for treason.

Another thing that doesn’t get mentioned in history is that the Europeans who settled in the south were very different than the ones who settled the Northeast. There was more diversity in the north east. Yankees are industrious, ambitious and innovative.

The south remains the poverty belt, the racist belt, the low IQ belt, the high divorce rate Belt, the teen pregnancy belt, The obesity belt, diabetes belt, the smoking belt, the cancer belt and the homicide belt. They don’t call the south the savage south for nothing.

Dennis King's avatar

Hard to argue about this. History books approved by trumpists won't touch it.

A good one is 'A People's History of the United States' by Howard Zinn.

Hound's avatar

I pretty much knew that was the case with the savages but I saw something on YouTube by Thomas Sewell describing why the south is so savage.

Tradition white Southerners was always ignorant, barbaric and combative. They settle everything with violence. They were very quick too have a duel with swords or guns or a rough and tumble fight where they can kill the adversary simply because somebody said something disrespectful.

These people didn’t know how to farm, they didn’t know how to make butter or tend to dairy cattle. They came mostly from parts of Britain. They’re known as the Scotts Irish and they were very undesirable in that part of British Isles. They enjoyed feuding with neighbors. They are also known for inbreeding. Here’s the question, A couple leaves Mississippi, They go to California and they get divorced. Are they still brother and sister?

james wheaton (Jay)'s avatar

I would also say that we cannot blame just the south for our problems right now. Unless you are talking solely about racism - and even then racism is not limited to the south. Ony more acute. Otherwise we can blame rural America in general, and the rich in general. Uneducated (or poorly educated) Americans are not limited to the south by any means. And I believe ignorance, including the "willingly ignorant" are a giant part of the problem wherever it lies. And the ultra-rich in general are allowing this degradation purely out of selfishness and lust for power. They are way too powerful and influential. And these guys are peppered throughout the country.

james wheaton (Jay)'s avatar

I agree with what you say about the south, just about 100%. I live in the south, and have lived there on and off since my childhood. So I get it. Here is where I disagree with some of your comments. Not all of our government is corrupt and responsible for this horrifying state of affairs we are now experiencing. I place the blame 95% on Republicans, and 5% at most on Democrats. I look at leaders like Sheldon Whitehouse, John Ossoff, Melanie Stansbury, AOC, Bernie Sanders - a long noble list - they are doing what they can to right this ship and turn the country into a truly great place for all. You cannot include them in any broad brushed impugnments.

I lived in NC in both eastern and western. I saw how the trash in Jacksonville treated the Marines and their families. It was disgusting. After they would come back from a deployment the local line of raise the price of gasoline and milk. Filthy price gouging by filthy people. When I lived near Watertown New York and there was a troop deployment from Fort Drum the town’s folks would come out salute them and wave American flags. Watertown has a conservative area but blue state conservatives are not nearly as scummy as the ones in the Bible Belt. There is more ethnic, cultural and religious diversity in New York and New England. Yankee ingenuity, honor and a strong work ethic.

New York State for instance has the highest per capita GDP of any other state.

There were a lot of good people in North Carolina and a lot of them were what the rednecks call Yankee transplants.

Is it any shock that the selfish and sociopathic get ahead in politics just as they do in the private sector?

Adele, it seems that trump, his high-level sycophants and stormtrooper goons are controlling the country. Reasoning people like Mary and others with their Substacks and independent news outlets recommend engaging in demonstrations and non-violent civil disobedience. Great leaders like FD Roosevelt, Eisenhower, MLK Junior, John Lewis, and the Kennedys stood up to the tyranny of racial discrimination and of vast wealth. It is in our hands as citizens to take up where the great leaders of history left off and turn away the proponents of mindless greed and hatred of the less privileged from political power. The fact that three of the world's

four biggest billionaires stood up for trump at his inauguration in 2025 says it all.

Adele Geraghty's avatar

Yes, that is happening but sometimes I feel it’s becoming a losing battle. Trump seems more emboldened than ever and the powers that be are standing back and letting it all happen. Will there ever be a breaking point and even if there is who going to step in and take charge of this mess? It’s heartbreaking. I was watching a football game last night and when they sang the national anthem, I actually teared up with the sadness of it all.

Katie Davis's avatar

Adele - I think we do not yet realize that the "powers that be" are actually behind the scenes running our country. They own the despot in the WH and his minions. Some of them were on the dias at his inauguration, but many more stay hidden as they direct the fascist regime they have built.

Karen O’Quinn's avatar

When will this country (or at least the Democrats) acknowledge that Trump is not planning on leaving the Presidency?Everything he is doing and planning are long term projects. No way is he going to go silently into the night in 3 years!

I don’t think he will make it another 3 years. 🤞🤞

Liberals need to wake up to the fact that MAGATS have no humanity so trying to teach them a lesson in humanity is foolish and naïve.

Liberals need to stop whining! They need to wake up to the fact that the chances of peaceful protest changing anything is slim and none.

People have bitched and bellyached about Trump since 2016. What good did that do?

They might as well stop bitching about the Epstein files as they preach to the chorus saying pedophile Trump pedophile Trump pedophile Trump. Of course he’s a pedophile he’s one of many. Pedophilia is the sport of billionaires.

The same liberals cry impeach impeach impeach impeach impeach. He’s been impeached twice and he’s still there. Impeachment is bullshit bullshit bullshit bullshit bullshit bullshit bullshit.

Liberals think that when Trump is gone everything will magically get good again. Grow up! Liberals need to wake up to the fact that Trump is merely a symptom of something far more sinister than Trump could ever think of.

If I were an alien from another world and I was watching this and I wanted to help, I would press the reset button. I would beam up all the parasite who passed themselves off as humans and release them into the vacuum of space.

Former congressman Ron Paul warned us more than 20 years ago that this was gonna happen. He called it corporatism. Back then he described it as mild fascism. It’s not so mild anymore now, is it?

Merry's avatar

WOW.

Yes. Dementia Donny was impeached TWICE. And WHO IMPEACHED HIM? Oh, wait… the house democrats did, in 2021! And the REPUBLICANS in the Senate refused to honor their duty, their sworn oaths to protect and defend the Constitution and the rule of law. They were tossed two solfballs and didn’t even swing. Instead, they yawned and looked the other way. And THEN the had the audacity to re-elect him, as a convicted felon and sexual predator!

So, if the Democrats were simply yawning, then what would you say about them?

It sounds to me like you’ve simply given up and accepted that the United States of America is now doomed. And that everyone should just accept it and stop complaining. And that sounds uncannily similar to what a rapist might tell his victim. In fact two republican politicians actually did say that, along with Bobby Knight.

For the record I’ve always been registered as an independent, for a reason. And I also know that this country has a lot of reckoning to do. But we’re not dead yet, so right now I will only support democratic candidates because they are at least trying to do something. They aren’t simply yawning and looking the other way. And the republicans control Congress right now. So the ball is in their court.

But I will not simply accept that this misogynistic, racist begot, criminal, thug, conman dictator will inevitably destroy this country.

“Clayton Williams: In 1990, while running for governor of Texas, the Republican candidate made an off-the-cuff remark suggesting some victims of rape should "'relax and enjoy it'". He initially dismissed it as a joke but later apologized after a significant public backlash that was widely believed to have damaged his campaign.

“Robert Regan: In March 2022, a Michigan House Republican candidate was under fire for telling a podcast host that he tells his three daughters, "Well if rape is inevitable, you should just lie back and enjoy it". He also attempted to contextualize his statement as an analogy for fighting back against an inevitable outcome, but the comments were widely condemned.

“Bob Knight: The former Indiana University basketball coach said during a 1988 NBC News interview with Connie Chung, "I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it". He claimed he was using an "old term" as an analogy for handling an uncontrollable situation, not the act of rape itself, but faced significant criticism for the remark.”

Sandy's avatar

VERY well said. As an Independent, former Republican because of Trump, I can see your points from both sides. Yes, Liberals need to step up more. Some have, but he has been able to get his allies in Congress to defend him, even ones who opposed him initially, like Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham. So many of them have seemingly sold their souls to the devil.

"Never Trumper" Republicans need to step up and join with the Democrats to remove him from office so that we don't become like Russia or Nazi Germany.

Hound's avatar

I don’t know if I’d call myself a liberal or a moderate or a progressive because I don’t even know what those things mean anymore. I don’t think I’m a conservative but I recognize the need for debate between the conservative ideology and the liberal ideology and everything in between. Some liberals can get a bit kooky As can some conservatives. We need all these voices and all the debate. Maybe we need another political party because this two party system has failed the republic and it has failed what was was democracy.

Adele Geraghty's avatar

Ok then… what are you suggesting? We just declare it hopeless and let it all happen? Didn’t the German people do that during the rise of Naziism?

Hound's avatar

It’s not the exact same thing as what happened in Germany. The German people were unfairly punished at the end of World War I like the treaty of Versailles. They had a reason to be pissed off and Hitler seized on that.

Hitler disarmed the German population. He censored everything.

Certainly Trump is using tactics from the Hitler playbook. Instead of demonizing the Jews is demonizing brown people. Trump is also demonizing free thinkers, the educated, the patriotic and the law abiding.

I’m hoping that the American military is more free thinking than the German military was back then. It may be too early for them too orchestrate a military coup. Maybe they’re waiting for Trump and his mob to do even more damage to the country so that when they removed him he won’t be looked at by anyone except for real garbage people as a martyr.

Dennis King's avatar

One might say that the fascist roots go back hundreds of years, and their tree really branched out with Nixon and Kissinger, and with the Lewis Powell Memo

"corporatist" guidebook from 1971. It will take decades to sift through the mess left by this subsequent pack of neo-Nazi fiends.

Sally Devoe's avatar

It kinda is the mafia controlling the Us and other countries now too, but it’s been legalized thanks to SCOTUS

Merry's avatar

And the republican senate who refused to indict and remove him in 2021, TWICE, but instead looked the other way. They broke their oaths and they’re all complicit traitors.

Sandy's avatar

Not to sound like a zealot or anything, but The Bible did predict this, as did Nostradamus.

Merry's avatar

Yep, prophetic indeed. Apocalyptic.

Four Horsemen, conquest, war, hunger, and death. Wars, rumors of wars, nation rising against nation, famines, earthquakes, and the sun being darkened, but these are just the beginning of the mass violence and destruction.✔️

Some will claim to be the second coming of Christ and mislead people. ✔️

Cities become dangerous due to fires, explosions, and lack of services; violence among survivors increases as people revert to primal instincts. ✔️

Clearly SOMEONE knew what was coming!

So. Now what? WW3? Massive destruction and death? The world being divided among the powerful countries? Annihilation? Looks like that’s what could be happening right now.

1984? Lord of the Flies?

Apocalypse Now?

Will it get much worse before it gets better?

Or, Divine intervention? Good vs evil…

And in my peabrain perspective, GOODNESS ALWAYS PREVAILS because if it didn’t, humanity would have self-destructed a long, long time ago.

“The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.”

Mary Trump has made a very good diagnosis of her depraved uncle Donald but I don’t think she has a solution or a cure for Donald and those in his orbit. And again, Mary Trump is a mental health therapist but Trump‘s depravity is not a result of his mental health. Trump‘s depravity and the depravity of the people around him is a result of their moral health.

There were people in history who knew what to do and did what needed to be done when it came to tyrants and other oppressors of humanity such as the filthy Rich. The French accomplished a lot in cleansing the gene pool of evil with a very effective use of a device called the guillotine.

In the mid 1940s the world held people accountable with the Nuremberg trials and execution of Nazis, you know, people like Elon Musk, Laura Ingraham, David Duke, Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos, Kristie Noem, Stephen Miller, whiskey Pete Hegseth, and the list goes on and on and on.

Perhaps Mary Trump would be wise to learn a little bit about behavioral genetics. Shrinks go to the DSM after they’ve done some psychometric test testing on clients and they assign those people with the diagnosis from the DSM. Sometimes they get it right and sometimes they get it wrong. Often end up complicating things and create paralysis by analysis. I’m gonna make it simple for other people who get distracted by philosophical bullshit. Trump and the people around him are normally known as assholes and scumbags. Every one of them fit something that the mental health industry calls the dark triad. These are people who are not really mentally ill but they’re morally ill and they’re beyond redemption and the mental health industry calls them therapy resistant. These are the rabid machiavellian Pitbulls of society. And tribal societies these people were terminated because it was the right thing to do for the rest of the people. Today we make excuses for them and give them bullshit diagnosis. We intellectualize about them and we whine and complain about them and do nothing.

To punish the oppressors of humanity is clemency. To forgive them is cruelty. -Robespierre-

Break out the guillotine.

JOHN MILLER's avatar

I think you're right, Hound but today's conversation gives these evil people gounds for shutting down our substacks. They know we are right, they fear truth and they are brutal.

Hound's avatar

We humans need to be more brutal and when it comes to the MAGAT we can’t beat them if we play by the rules. It’s time for us to make the rules.

Michelle Obama would say, “When they go low, we go high”. That sounds nice but it’s wrong. When they go low we go lower and it doesn’t make us like them Because there is honor and decimating an enemy especially when the enemy is the enemy of humanity.

The Canadiens have a saying, elbows up. When somebody tries to cheat shot you against the boards and a hockey game, you bring your elbows up so that when they try to crash into you crash into your elbows and get some of their teeth knocked out.

Liberals need to stop whining and start swinging. Liberals need to stop intellectualizing and wake up to the Sid reality that they are outgunned by the MAGATS. They shouldn’t be trying to give a MAGAT a lesson in humanity because the MAGAT has no humanity.

Where is the incentive for oil companies to re-invest in Venezuela? It's going to cost billions to rebuild the infrastructure, the price per barrel is already low and Donald in his genius business mind wants to lower it even more, China is busy building enormous solar, wind and geothermal electrical capacity. The long term doesn't look particularly oil friendly. With his sharp as a tack mind and distain for the environment Trump will next be saying we need Greenland because whale oil is vital to national security.
