There is a saying in the Corrections Industry that succinctly describes the oft noted excuses used by the guilty: “There is no problem so big that I cannot blame it on somebody else.” Unlike projection, it IS conscious and is always a Hail Mary Pass. Donald KNOWS he is lying and is quite expert in shifting blame as sociopaths and Cluster B traited individuals demonstrate because it works. It is a Conscious Narrative that one must always be a victim to support the internal narrative that he is a GOOD GUY and his enemies are Bad Guys. Always need a fresh supply of Bad Guys to support the story. But I don’t think for a second that this is an unconscious process but is Page 1 of the Sociopath’s How To Get Away With Everything Handbook. He. knows, he’s. lying.
Projection seems to be what he seeks in others as well. Pete Hoekstra has “warned” Canada and Canadians not to interfere in American politics while he knows full well that the separation movements in Quebec and Alberta are being paid for by Republican donors, all the players have been to Washington and have been promised lucrative deals and the rest of the garbage is coming from Russian ‘bots. We know how hand in glove Trump and the administration is with Russia.
So articulately stated, Mary. It's a delight listening to you clearly explain a complex state. Unfortunately leadership today and many followers likely never studied Carl Jung. And am speculating that many never invested in becoming self aware and genuinely conscious. Projection, shadow, dark side, disowned material...all of it is in clear display. Excellent article. I keep thinking about the place I was born in Oregon. Children killed. Someone was most likely radicalized. 16 years old was the shooter. This was so unnecessary.
This has resonance in Australia too. It seems the entire world is now being subjected to narcissistic abuse and coercive control. We all, everywhere, need to wake up or help others wake up and realise that “keeping sweet” is not an option, this has become existential to the future of life on earth. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

How are not debased to go along with the grifting and scamming and are able to hold on to your integrity surrounded by what's basically a small time mafia on your uncles side of the family? I would guess, to most normal people, 21 lies per day sounds like a lot. But, as you say, Mary, those are only the lies about which we know. For myself, I just figure everything he ever says is a lie. Which makes counting them unnecessary.
