Eric Boehlert
1965-2022
The journalist Eric Boehlert died last night. He was 56 years old—my age. It is impossible to overstate the magnitude of this loss. The first time I saw Eric was during an appearance on A.M. Joy. Over the years he became an increasingly prominent—and prescient—media critic. A few months ago I was lucky enough to connect with him and, although we never met in person, we spoke a few times on the phone and he took part in a social media project I’ve been working on. He was a sweet and lovely man and I looked forward to meeting him. His “Press Run” Substack was essential reading but more than that he was a true patriot, someone who loved his country and understood the dangers presented by the failures of the mainstream media. He never hesitated to speak truth to power and his courage was an inspiration. I am staggered by what we have all lost.
Every word of this. He was one of the best journalistic voices, so badly needed these days and his loss is profound. He was an excellent music journalist as well, and a true music fan. I’ll miss his savvy takes on Twitter, and Press Run. May his memory be a blessing.
What a breathtakingly tragic loss! His brilliant take on current events, politics, humanity enriched us all. He truly was a great man and will be sorely missed.
