More people around the world watch the World Cup Final than the Super Bowl and World Series combined, which means Donald Trump did not embarrass the United States before a merely large audience. He did it before roughly a billion people. Spain had just earned the greatest prize in international soccer, yet Trump lingered onstage as though he had scored the winning goal himself, soaking up attention that belonged entirely to the players.

And perhaps that is the most bitterly ironic part: while millions of Americans have already lost health coverage, with millions more projected to become uninsured because of policies enacted under Trump, the man at the center of it all appeared before the entire world displaying an extraordinary need for attention, self-awareness and, quite possibly, the kind of professional help he has made harder for other people to obtain. Spain won the World Cup, but Trump still found a way to make America the loser.

Good on Spain for photoshopping him out of the picture.

The members of the military who died for Donnie, died in vain, and he doesn't give a rat's ass about them, or their families, or anyone else, that isn't Him.

This is your finest hour, Mary. The mainstream press (what's left of it) , the Dem party, politicians, pundits, independent journalists should all be praising this column and putting in everyone's face. By far the best account, it is, of what happened in MetLife Stadium yesterday and beyond the Stadium. The Pres looked so pathetic standing on that stage while the players celebrated their hard-earned victory. Pathetic. But know this is what he was doing while three more Americans died in his illegal war is simply heartbreaking, knowing this is the sad state our country is in under his leadership or lack thereof. Not to mention the circus clowns he hired for important jobs beyond their capabilities. Don't get me started. Anyway, Mary, well done, in spades.

The lack of information from CENTCOM about American losses in stockpiled materials, equipment, aircraft, housing, and missiles, is conveniently designed to obscure the enormous cost of this insane war. That’s in addition to the tragic human losses, which seem slow to emerge. And I can imagine that host countries, which leased facilities to the U.S., and are now seeing themselves targeted, are now something less than fond of this country. I wonder if this country, and the world, will survive your uncle.

We will but he's gonna cost us a whole lot!

So, by confirming that the US had casualties and fatalities at a certain location that Iran bombed, the Pentagon would be providing additional intelligence to Iran? How stupid is that statement? Iran clearly had targeting information sufficient to attack and kill our soldiers. By denying that the attack happened or to minimize or ignore the severity of the damage doesn't eliminate the fact that we suffered grievous losses. Withholding casualty information makes the US and the Pentagon appear devious and evasive... OK, never mind.

as usual, a self inflicted wound

Well said Mary. Once again you nailed. Donnie had tanked our reputation world wide. It will take years to repair the damage he's done. As for those Republicans that support him, vote the bastards out!

Dear Mary, Useless for me to say anything except Thank You. For your ongoing, articulate summaries (laced with well-timed, highly appropriate sarcasm) I thank you from my heart. With your help, we are managing to maintain hope.

Thank you for the excellent, article. The President had no business in interfering in the presentation of the trophies. I watched that on BTC YouTube channel. We are in a time of war, with, Iran. Way too many soldiers lost their lives. No Medal of Honor will fix that.

he's like that family member you can't take out with your family any where - especially if it counts.

Unfortunately, Mary it's painfully true for you... At least we can put Canadian maple leaves on our shirts when we travel.

Mary, Donald is superior to every one of those players. As a malignant narcissist, Donald is a god. He deserves our slavish adoration. The scariest psych patients in the locked wards were the malignant narcissists. They have no conscience, no guilt, no soul. They will actually do anything and expect to get away with it. No treatment. No cure. Real evil.

a phrase that has stuck with me for over forty years - "Impervious to treatment" - in response to a particularly difficult client... It left me with chills - even still.

This is such a. horrifying shitshow at this point I freeze can no longer respond to the pure imbecility mixed with unlimited power of a grifting, thieving, lying buffoon who is responsible for the dying of young service people. They should have followed the example of Mark Kelley and just refused the idiotic commands. And sincere condolences to their families.

I'm becoming worried that these bombings are for softening up the area for either amphibious raids or an invasion attempt. If so, it's going to be very bad for our troops.

Man. I'm having nightmares about seemingly endless formations of troops racing up from beneath the desert screaming imprecations, ready to defeat the great satan.

Wherever he goes and whatever he does, Donald J. Trump is always the proverbial turd in the punch bowl.

you're too kind - there is nothing "proverbial" about this particular turd

Just read the whole piece by Patty Mooney. Deep breath and sigh at the end.

The call for a return to empathy and statement of rejection of those who care only about money and their own enrichment is a fitting conclusion.

Now let us come together and see how we can carry through with these two statements looking to these ideas for how we will rebuild our government.
