ONE PERSON. Literally, a single person (if “person” is even the word) is doing this to the ENTIRE PLANET, and somehow he’s been unstoppable. How can this all be happening? What kind of magical spell has been cast over all those Republicans in Congress, that they can think their *jobs* are somehow worth more than the future of the entire country, which any half-wit can see is crumbling before our eyes?
And if that weren’t enough, there’s the rest of the world and the global economy, which one would think might give them a wee twinge of discomfort, but those who feel nothing now never felt anything before, so that’s not a change…but it’s the total lack of any knowledge of history, ours and others’, topped off by the stunning lack of imagination which shields them from looking a SINGLE STEP beyond sticking it to a bunch of Muslims or women or the AIR which even they have to breathe to LIVE, which boggles my mind.
Thanks for all you’ve been doing in this cataclysmic time, Mary Trump!
I don't think it's any wonder how so many folk around the world recently leapt onto the amazing performance of the Artemis II astronauts rounding the Moon with such heartfelt, rock-solid competence as a reminder of what true American professionalism looks like, because what's going on with Donald's decision-making is in stark contrast.
As we say here in the UK, I'm not sure he could find his own arse with a map.
You're right he's a "spoiled brat" who gets bored and doesn't even pick up his own toys. What's interesting is Iran didn't want to "play this game" with him in the first place.
Let's face it. It's our own fault. We elected a man whom most Americans are now ashamed of and who has exhibited just about every repulsive human trait that would be far too numerous to itemize, even with deleting the appropriate expletives. We are stuck with this menacing clown whom a majority of our own Supreme Court Justices has blessed because in all his perversions he has managed to satisfy their craving for a banana-republic style strongman who is obsessed with ruling over a white male Christian population that has been purified of minorities and immigrants, whom he labels as "domestic terrorists" so that his ICE Gestapo can treat them as scum and lock them in a prison surrounded by alligators. He is a truly repulsive human being. But why am I writing this? We all know it, though there is some cathartic value in voicing it, if only to the chorus.
Hang on there. I am not that “we”, and neither are (or is?) most of the USA. 64% of eligible voters bothered to vote, and of those, Trump got 49.8% to Harris’ 48.3%. Then the Electoral College, which gives a Wyoming vote almost 4x the power as a Californian vote, capped off his by-a-whisker win—but they each got around 30% of the eligible voters’ votes.
I hate seeing people who never voted for Trump (like me!) sitting there quietly while someone repeats this “it’s our own fault” baloney. Please put the blame you’re so generously ascribing to ME onto some White Nationalist in rural PA…or some oblivious retiree in The Villages. THEY elected him.
Thank you. I used to try to explain those statistics = 64%, 49.8%, 48.3% when someone would say that most of America voted for him, that he won in a landslide, that this is what America wanted. I gave up long ago and it's nice to see it in print today. It somehow gives me hope.
That’s how I feel about those numbers, too! Every time Trump or a minion says “he won in a landslide,” I think, “he won by a nose,” and am mystified that those 3 numbers aren’t on the tip of every Democrat’s tongue. I have to keep reminding myself that WE have always outnumbered THEM— and that’s why I refuse to be glommed in with the 1/3 of the electorate who elected him, and why we have to remember that…OUT LOUD.
Yep - on the whole, it was still a minority of Americans, and I think that's as important as the fact that many of them are now regretting it, even while a lot of the news continues to obsess over the ones that don't regret it. We just had local elections here in the UK, and it's easy to look at all the votes for Reform (our far-right party) and get disheartened. But the numbers tell you surprisingly little about the average person you meet on the street, and what's in their heads, and what kind of world they want to see.
I couldn't agree with you more. I did not and would not ever vote for Donald Trump. Not under any circumstances. I insist the people I vote for to be 1) sane and 2) not convicted felons. Trump is disqualified on both.
Trump garned more of the popular votes than Harris, and in the Electoral College, which is legally what really counts, he received 312 electoral votes to Kamala Harris’s 226.
Donald Trump about 77.3 million 49.8%
Kamala Harris about 75.0 million 48.3%
You can twist the words as much as you want, but Trump legally won the election, winning more of the popular votes than Harris and winning a majority of the Electoral College votes.
I used the word "we" because we Democrats dropped the ball in allowing Trump to win. We can eaaily point fingers at Joe Biden and others but let's face it, we could have done better. There are many lessons to be learned from our loss in 2024, and we need to learn and act on them in the upcoming 2026 elections and in the 2028 elections.
Yes, he did win, as I noted, but with just 1/3 of the electorate. Yes, he also won the absurd and destructive Electoral College, again, as I noted. And yes, the Dems should have done a lot of things differently (one of my pet peeves as a Minnesotan was that our great Gov. Tim Walz wasn’t let loose to speak extemporaneously, but after the initial burst of excitement, stuck repeating an approved stump speech everywhere).
That all adds up to something different from “we elected a man”!
The whole world of politics and campaigns and civility has been set on fire since Trump won in 2016, and it’s taking time to believe it and figure out how to fight it. That’s sickeningly obvious in Dem leadership, like the utterly well-meaning Schumer and Jeffries, both experienced and genteel fellows who are innately ill-suited to mud-wrestling! Tone and tactics have to be completely re-jiggered for this literally unbelievable new reality, as the standards of courtesy which were pillars of Congress no longer exist.
“We” did not “elect” Trump— we just couldn’t accept that he was real, and any living, literate (or barely literate) American could vote for him, particularly after J-6. I think we get it now—but the Democratic machine’s evolution hadn’t been fast enough in 2020 to ensure that THEY didn’t elect him.
As vigorously as you seek to deny any personal responsibility for Trump’s election, it does not alter the fact that the American people elected this monster as our President. “We the People “ was a term used in the Declaration of Independence to refer to our collective society, though many colonists were opposed to it. Here, even though many people voted against Trump and, just as importantly, many people didn’t vote at all, we as a nation all bear the collective responsibility for him having been voted President. While hindsight is hardly a defense , there are clearly lessons to be learned even for those who voted for Harris. As for Walz, my own opinion is that by him giving Vance a pass during the debate and going easy on the most hated person in America, was a major blow to the ticket. He was a disaster. In 2024, the American people enabled Donald Trump to be the President, and we all share a collective responsibility for that, even if individual citizens refuse to accept any responsibility .
L.D. - I, too, have to call out your use of the royal "we," because I have never voted for that vile creature and the majority of eligible American votes didn't vote for him, either. Those far more responsible are all those registered voters who, for whatever reasons, didn't vote at all. Every vote matters and each of us must accept that honorable civic duty or shut the F**K up.
Somehow I wish the families of the fallen servicemen and servicewomen could organize and confront him..."you sent my son/daughter into a useless war and killed them...and now you're....BORED??"
God, he’s such an IDIOT. But, I digress. Your point about Iran having the right to protect itself no matter what its politics are, is well taken. Republicans don’t like fascist regimes? Maybe they should start with getting rid of ours…
Well, aren’t they a bunch of delicate doilies??? In addition to being breathtakingly incompetent, they insist that what is holding them back is criticism. Criticism. That’s a fine piece of projection from these cruel, heartless goons.
Felon tRump is a disgrace to the human race and twice as dangerous. He is a sick megalomaniac psychopath motivated by money and power, in that order. As I was reading Mary's analysis, I kept wondering when is she going to mention and point out that he actually said he DOES NOT CARE! And there it was in the last few paragraphs: he does not care and he is bored. That says it all about who he is. His interest is in gaming the system and grifting with his lies, pretending and putting on a good front for his gullible sycophants, most of whom are in his corner for the same reasons...money, power and control. His fixation on money and power makes him a useful idiot to those who want to use him for their own ends- Bibi and Putin.
Detailed truthful research well done, while Dumbkoff Trump appears like a huge walrus flapping and clapping himself, as if it’s all a walk in the park. What a joyless specimen and apologies for an insult to walruses. He needs to add his tone deaf disco moves again to complete the scherade; 🕺🏿 😱
In response to DJT's mocking millions of his constituents, calling them 'DUMOCRATS,' we should feel free to call members of his party: REPUGNICANS (repugnant), right?... Sheeeze... A couple of days earlier, I watched sycophants take turns 'bowing and praising the neon god they'd made'... Was SAD... That kind of praise should be reserved for the LORD...
Thank you, Mary for the article. President Trump is losing in every way possible. It’s about time the GOP decided not to give him what he wants. I’m sure he is unhappy, big deal.
Donald always claims to hold all the cards. Problem is that he doesn't know which card game he is playing.
Thanks, Mary. Another well written summary of our current mess.

As we say here in the UK, I'm not sure he could find his own arse with a map.
Last week he proved he couldn't read the equivalent of a Dr Seuss book to children. The chances that he could even read an actual map are minuscule.
You're right he's a "spoiled brat" who gets bored and doesn't even pick up his own toys. What's interesting is Iran didn't want to "play this game" with him in the first place.

Exactly. Their idea of a landslide and the facts as usual don't add up. I'm with you it is nice to see it inprint.
Yep - on the whole, it was still a minority of Americans, and I think that's as important as the fact that many of them are now regretting it, even while a lot of the news continues to obsess over the ones that don't regret it. My reference to "we" was a reference to the majority, as thin as it was, of the American people.
Except it wasn’t a majority in the classical sense!
Trump garned more of the popular votes than Harris, and in the Electoral College, which is legally what really counts, he received 312 electoral votes to Kamala Harris’s 226.
Donald Trump about 77.3 million 49.8%

Sure. "Sit back and relax." How many times have we heard men say about rape, "just lie back and enjoy it."
It’s so wonderful when you put all the awfulness in one message. Thank you for your fortitude!
