They are still being followers of the trumpy ideal of always looking out for themselves and not the country. No matter what they say.

Great column!! About time this was said! Republicans have always been nasty, selfish and dangerous. This didn't happen overnight or in a vacuum.

They have progressively developed a sense that they and, they alone are entitled to govern despite plenty of evidence of their terrible incompetence. We must start calling this out. Obstruction of governance is not governance. I think the impending tRump recession will set up a massive realignment in November. Then we must set about fixing the Constitution so this cannot happen again.

Trump has always been unqualified, incompetent, and cruel. Never was presidential material. The voters who put the imbecile into the Presidency are directly responsible for the destruction Trump has brought to this country.

David Maceira's avatar

Don't forget Mitch McConnell, the GQP and the corrupt 6 of 9 SCOTUS that empowered, protected and emboldened this monster.

110 percent correct 👍🏼

I believe that it was F-Elon and Vlad who put him here now.

Abby, Yes! That duo Putin & Musk put the criminal in the White House

Maria Pickworth's avatar

You cannot totally blame them as a lot of your own people voted for him and 1/3 did not vote at all so 2/3 of your population should also be held responsible for what is happening to your country and the world.

Kathy Roeske's avatar

Yes and I hope they suffer the consequences. They disgust me.

ETTD, before the presidency Mary, he failed at everything seeking bankruptcy now he WILL bankrupt the country. That is the plan his tendencies don’t change even the miserable failures are magical wins. Nobody is buying it anymore there are no new grifts out there we’ve learned. Somebody tell him because he really doesn’t get it.

sharon Maxey's avatar

Well, I guess that sounds right, as far as strategies go.

But really—I’m not buying the rebrand, either.

They can all go fuck ALL THE WAY OFF, and then turn around and fuck ALL THE WAY OFF, again.

The question is if we get rid of him, we get Vance, similarly unhinged - (racist, liar, self-serving narcissist, white supremacist, fascist), but younger and slightly smarter. Then there is the entire MAGA cult and the rest of the Rethuglican party - still dangerous and threatening our democracy with corrupt lust for power.

Heather's avatar

I whole-heartedly agree with ur comment. Vance is 100% beholden to Peter Thiel (who is quoted saying that freedom and democracy cannot co-exist). He is 100% committed to Project 2025 and all of its regressive, misogynistic, racist and bigoted tropes. He is a dyed-in-the-wool white nationalist using the (anti)-christian nationalist platform. He is just as cruel as Trump and equally as unhinged. He is less concerned with enriching himself - he is motivated by an agenda much more terrifying than richer billionaires.

Hound's avatar

This may shock you but I don’t think Hitler actually hated the Jews. He didn’t have enough humanity even in order to hate. He saw them as an opportunity to get unlimited power so he made them goat.

Vance is probably the same way so they will take any path available to them if they think it will help them reach their goal. Supposedly, 4% of the population are sociopaths. They have evil ambitions and they are scourge. Purge the scourge. SPAY & NEUTER!

Still dangerous but disliked

My sentiments exactly ERL!

Hound's avatar

We have to get rid of a lot more than Vance and politicians. We gotta get rid of the people the politicians actually work for and those are the corporate criminals and billionaire criminals who are still above the law.

MAGA is far less of a threat than corporate criminal elite. When a MAGA breaks the law they get brought to justice. The MAGA is just as oppressed as the rest of us. The MAGA means nothing to the ruling class. All we are to them are serfs, props, taxpayers and consumers and ultimately cash cows.

Obscenely wealthy and powerful are the enemy. They have about the same level of humanity as a MAGAT but they have power and privilege that the MAGAT doesn’t have.

“Gradually, then suddenly” is a hopeful reminder of how things often climax. Let’s keep pressing onward. The day of reckoning is out there unpredictable but inevitable. Thank God!

If only there had been some clue…

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Diana, ha! Admittedly, a bunch of folks have been groomed over the past 50 years to support whatever Republicans do and condemn anything Democrats suggest, which has made it so hard after each Republican administration for Dems to clean up, getting only about 50 days to clean up 4 to 8 years of destruction. It amazes me that Democrats have done as well as they have each time. Those groomed souls are ready in the wings to vote for Republicans again no matter how inept, disgusting, unqualified, unworthy the candidate is, then they whine that their prices are too high, their wages too low, the cost of gas is too high, they can't afford medical care, and on and on. Hmmm! I wonder who caused all those problems they whine over!

mer t's avatar

I think Diana is being sarcastic

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Mer T, yep, she definitely was, gotta love it!

Kim Boucher's avatar

I don't really think it's the r's who are whining

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Kim, I hear them interviewed on our local news and other places. They then say they voted for Trump or still support him anyway. Of course they whine, but somehow cannot see that those they are supporting are those who are causing their problems, not the Democrats. Reality is hard for Trumplandia.

They are still being followers of the trumpy ideal of always looking out for themselves and not the country. No matter what they say. They should all be loosing followers because the followers believed the people who did not check trumpy out. He has been dishonest his whole life. They bought the lie

Don Harmon's avatar

My fear is that the obvious mental and physical deterioration of Our Grand Dictator, and the resultant public rejection of him, will lead to a problem as in his first and second elections. Democratic voters stayed home by the tens of millions in both, creating a default winner by their apathy.

The gross and shocking Democratic voter disloyalty in those two elections has gravely damaged our country, and now, with the new, apparently failed war in Iran, has alienated and damaged much of the world.

Mary Trump has been telling us for years exactly what and who Donald is, it’s about time people are listening.

Scfriedley's avatar

I agree Clarice. She’s always upfront and gives us an understanding of tRump that we never learn elsewhere. She’s also a concise and intelligent writer. An asset for all of us. Thank you Mary❣️

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Yeah, dementia, like Trump's takes away any guardrails that might have been present in an already appalling life. I can honestly not think of one positive thing to say about Donald Trump, none. I can usually note something positive about a person, but the person I refer to as Baby Donnie has no redeeming qualities and will bring us all down if we don't find ways to stop him and his white house toddler pool (which includes his cabinet, the Roberts 6 on our Supreme Court, and most of the Republicans and a few Democrats in Congress and state legislatures. It sounds like a lot of folks, but it isn't many if We the People chose to stand up to them!!
