He was brilliant and he said great things and his written works are still very important and should be read by everyone. Most people did not own slaves even in the South, because it was just too darn expensive to own them. Most people, unlike Jefferson, were very poor even at the time of the Civil War the majority of Southerners did NOT own slaves because THEY COULD NOT AFFORD SLAVES!!!

At the age of 85, and reflecting on our nations past history, it is really very hard to comprehend how we have arrived at this low point morally, politically, legally and ethically. We are clearly on the bottom, and I just hope I can live long enough to see what was once a good country recover from the madness of this fascist thug!
Perhaps USA needs to come to realization it is no longer seen as Beacon of Liberty and Justice?
Maybe US finally have to face the darkest parts of its history and how this nation was partly built and maintained by genocidal mindset, slavery, greed, racism etc among the noblest intentions to free itself from Tyranny of the King and to build a fair system for all the people.
I am not a historian but it seems to me there has to be some need collective awakening before those dark forces expand.

Mary, your posts provide much needed insight and perspective. I appreciate the difficult work you do for us, we need truth tellers now more than ever. So much of what you write causes my blood pressure to spike, but truth is like that, sometimes.
I'm not religious. I don't agree with the the way Trump and his associates invokes God's name and symbols like the cross to steal God's influence to manipulate people who are religious.
Trump is a weird merging of a Cuckoo bird and a marionette playing with his puppets. He steals everything that's not tied down. All Republican politicians seem to do it too. Marjorie Taylor Green is really obvious, as is Mike Johnson. I wonder how many religious people make up the last of the dwindling MAGA?

Says Thomas Jefferson who owned slaves and despite all of his talk about "all men are created equal" did NOTHING to stop or deter the institution of slavery in the USA which he knew was morally wrong.
As did George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin etc.
In addition, eight of the first twelve presidents owned slaves. Not to mention 17 of the 55 delegates of the 1787 Constitutional Convention held approximately 1400 slaves.
BTW...the subject of Thomas Jefferson's quote was not about slavery.
I KNOW that the post did not mention slave specifically. You do not have to tell me how to read. You obviously missed my point. Jefferson was talking about religion as he stated the word "priest". Now at the time and still the majority of people in the USA are protestants and a priest is a Catholic clergyman. So the word "priest" used by Jefferson is odd actually, you would think he would say Rev. or Pastor but he said "Priest" which makes me think while I do not deny that Jefferson said these words, he probably was quoting someone else. I am not sure that Ben Franklin owned slaves as he lived in the North. I realize that at THAT point early on people in the North also owned slaves, so it is possible Ben did own slaves, but that would have to be researched. At the time of Jefferson there were many people especially in the North that were against slavery. In fact slavery was around during the Roman times and there were people at that time who were against slavery. Egypt had slaves and the whole story of the Exodus and Moses is about the Jews being slaves. My point is that Jefferson was a hypocrite, there is no way around that conclusion. He was brilliant and he said great things and his written works are still very important and should be read by everyone. Yet JEFFERSON was also a hypocrite in that he had slaves and he did not think there was anything wrong with having slaves, or he would not have had them in the first place. Most people did not own slaves even in the South, because it was just too darn expensive to own them. Most people, unlike Jefferson, were very poor even at the time of the Civil War the majority of Southerners did NOT own slaves because THEY COULD NOT AFFORD SLAVES!!!

I heard yesterday that she was traveling… I don’t know where. She just mentioned it on the Nerd Avengers. I don’t know when she’ll be back.
It’s weird though because today when it didn’t come on again I waited till like 6:15 and then I decided to look it up on her YouTube channel and there was her live show. I watched it, but I prefer watching it on Substack where we can all comment and chat during the show. Maybe her team forgot the last couple days to connect to her Substack account. 🤷🏻♀️

Mike Huckabee, a former Southern Baptist preacher, is as deluded as Donald with his shit about God and dropping bombs on the Iranians. I actually agree with Huckabee's description of Donald as being "the most consequential President in a century---maybe ever" but only in the context of him being the most dangerous lunatic ever to hold the office of POTUS. If the country and the world survive his cruel reign of terror, it truly will be a miracle.

I'm surprised some of them aren't strangling with those crosses around their necks. It's like they've taken Christ's words & actions and done the opposite. I think they've already broken most of the 10 commandments. And they want to ignore the part where God gave man free will.
