Mike Huckabee was Class of 1972 at Hope High School in Hope, Arkansas. Many people who should (and do) know better are drawn to Donald because they smell money or power. He has no redeeming qualities and is getting worse by the day. It is the 8th wonder of the world why the Republican Party have ignored the reality of Donald.

He is a sociopathic toddler at best. There is not one Christian bone in his body.

He and his ilk are into Revelations, end times, Armageddon and all that. They want Israel to combust the Middle East so they can all go to hell that much sooner. They would've been on Jesus' left, or sinister side. Religious education is good for something. I can't speak to theirs.

The Zionists in the evangelical wing only venerate Israel bc they believe that is their ticket to heaven.

These people are sickening. They label themselves Christians, but their hate, cynicism and bald-faced greed totally refute that claim.

More than ever before Donnie Dimwit is displaying physical and mental decline to a degree that is becoming hard even for the complicit corporate media to ignore. His behavior at the G7 and at the NATO Summit is borderline psychotic and will have consequences that none of us really want to consider. The least of which is that world leaders will now totally marginalize him, and having him on the sidelines is not good for the United States.

Remember the old days when both parties ran real Americans for President? We knew we would have a law abiding, Constitution following person leading us and didn't have to worry about a human wreck, mentally, emotionally and psychologically out of control in the White House?

How could we have possibly voted such a classless and unqualified man as our President again? It boggles the mind!

They told me that if I voted for Kamala Harris, in six months, we would be involved in a war in the Middle East. I did and here we are...🙄

I'm old enough to remember Kennedy v Nixon. Nixon was a corrupt right wing shit, but he still cared about the country. Goldwater came next, he had a vision that was deranged, but he too cared about the country. Let's not forget that even as corrupt and criminal as Nixon was, he gave us the EPA, OSHA and detente. He was still a shit, but he did some good. Fast forward to Reagan, he started the movement to care about millionaires and billionaires and no one else. And it has been downhill ever since.

Has he ever read ANY book? He does not strike me as a reader or the intellectually curious type. I am not at all religious but I am a moral person. Again, I do not think that the president is either. Pretending to be religious to con the religious is immoral because it hurts other people. Hurting other people is wrong not because some authority figure in the sky will punish you if you do. Most of us have an innate bad feeling when we see others hurting because all human experience has told us that our continued survival depends on cooperation more than competition, but there has always been the minority who do not have this innate feeling and exploit others instead. That is this president and many in his administration including the REAL president right now Stephen Miller.

Please don't say, "I am not at all religious but I am a moral person." It would be closer to the truth to say, "I am not at all religious and therefore I am a moral person." Of course, there are religious people who are moral, but my sense is that the percentage of them who are moral is smaller than the percentage of non-religious people who are moral. This is because many religious people think that religion substitutes for morality, whereas non-religious people are more likely to think about morality.

I think that American Christianity has been warped by the real American religion of money. Many (most?) evangelical religious people in this country have been seduced by greed and a lust for worldy power. They don't care about saving souls for the next world so much as they want power and wealth in this world. Mega-churches should not even exist in Christianity! The hoarding of wealth and concentration on one's own "prosperity" is contrary to the very book that they claim is the basis of their religion! I knew things were insane when this rich preacher justified his personal jet by saying that Jesus would want him to arrive fresh at his destination to better spread his word. Not the Jesus in their bible! Not while there is one child starving or who needs medical care! It's like American Christianity has taken the Christ out.

As did George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin etc.

In addition, eight of the first twelve presidents owned slaves. Not to mention 17 of the 55 delegates of the 1787 Constitutional Convention held approximately 1400 slaves.

BTW...the subject of Thomas Jefferson's quote was not about slavery.

Expand full comment
Elena Freshman Schumann's avatar

I KNOW that the post did not mention slave specifically. You do not have to tell me how to read. You obviously missed my point. Jefferson was talking about religion as he stated the word "priest". Now at the time and still the majority of people in the USA are protestants and a priest is a Catholic clergyman. So the word "priest" used by Jefferson is odd actually, you would think he would say Rev. or Pastor but he said "Priest" which makes me think while I do not deny that Jefferson said these words, he probably was quoting someone else. I am not sure that Ben Franklin owned slaves as he lived in the North. I realize that at THAT point early on people in the North also owned slaves, so it is possible Ben did own slaves, but that would have to be researched. At the time of Jefferson there were many people especially in the North that were against slavery. In fact slavery was around during the Roman times and there were people at that time who were against slavery. Egypt had slaves and the whole story of the Exodus and Moses is about the Jews being slaves. My point is that Jefferson was a hypocrite, there is no way around that conclusion. He was brilliant and he said great things and his written works are still very important and should be read by everyone. Yet JEFFERSON was also a hypocrite in that he had slaves and he did not think there was anything wrong with having slaves, or he would not have had them in the first place. Most people did not own slaves even in the South, because it was just too darn expensive to own them. Most people, unlike Jefferson, were very poor even at the time of the Civil War the majority of Southerners did NOT own slaves because THEY COULD NOT AFFORD SLAVES!!!
