Australia has its first mass shooting in years. What’s the first thing they do? Toughen their already strong gun laws. We have dozens of school shootings in a year. What do we do? Allow AR15s to be legal for everyone. (You need those for hunting, right?) Our country is going down the tubes and MAGAts are applauding.

Kathy, the MAGAs are applauding because it is not one of their kids who is shot down. Conservative people often do not see a danger until it touches them directly, then they want to do harm to everyone involved. There is no sense of preventive action. Then they take the course that if guns are used in a situation, everyone should have guns. The logic is so off-base that one could laugh if it were not so serious and deadly.

I’m so sad. 😞 thanks for writing— so much grief

Mary, I feel your despair. However you have witnessed this all your life. No accountability, no conscience, no empathy and no courage. Do not ever feel shame by this, the only one to feel shame is your uncle, Donald. But, as amply evidenced he has no feelings. Thank you for your honesty and insight. ❤️

So very sad and I don’t have words. I will just say, I’m so sorry for the family and friends of the victims. My heart breaks for your loss. Sending healing thoughts to all 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦♥️

I drowned my sadness tonight with some Van Leeuwen Strawberry ice cream with Almond whipped cream on it! Tomorrow is another day!

The despair is nearly unbearable. Really, at a breaking point. For certain: “Nothing about this is sustainable. Nothing about this is survivable.” No, it isn’t.

Donald Trump normalized murder, gun violence, and Patel's ineptitude. Unbelievable.

Mary, I wish I had answers, but I have none. I do appreciate your fighting the good fight though.

I dunno, Mary--people suck!

Some people suck.

Some people suck a lot now and then and some people suck a little now and then but we all suck at one time or another, right? lol

The Alabama governorship race between Doug Jones and Tommy “the genius” Tubberville will be a plebiscite on exactly how many of the Alabama Electorate suck.

May sound lame but if you can't control something personally, all one can do is hope or pray, if you have that in your life.

Roslyn Reid's avatar

Yes. I didn't mean to put it so bluntly, but sometimes... *sigh*

ConnieW's avatar

No, you were right. On the whole, people suck. I appreciate the peanuts reference. Charles Schultz was one of our greatest philosophers of the human condition.

I'm 74 and have been saying since my late teens that the world would be a much better place without us.

LOL. We have no way of knowing!

Excellent questions at the end of the piece! I think there are several answers: a lack of courage; disbelief that this is really happening here; uncertainty as to what We the People can actually do; racism, misogyny, homo/transphobia, and classism that we secretly hold inour hearts and so we don't mind THOSE people being harmed; paying too much attention to the slanted media that wants so much to pump out the word that Donald Trump is a good guy doing what is best for America whenit is only what is best for himself, his family, and the oligarchs who financially feed Trump's addiction to power and money; and probably other answers too. If we could stand up together and say collectively, "no more of this." we could stop a lot of it. IF our military were to say "we are no longer following illegal orders" it could stop the blasting small boats out of the water and stealing oil ships from a nation far smaller than ours. It is going to have to be a collective set of actions to stop this fascist insanity perpetrated by a few whiny white men whose behavior is more like that of bratty badly-parented toddlers than adults.

Thank you for clearly stating what is happening in this country!

It is not acceptable for our president to encourage violence toward the citizens of the USA!!!

We had learned (in our history) to turn towards civilization and away from anger and towards solving our differences with compromise and understanding. Are there men and women who are willing to speak out and act?

Donald J Trump is a horrible man in the top position, world wide to make a positive statement and use America's mighty power and leadership to curb the uncontrolled gun sales and right the ship of sanity and hope. The President is a hopeless pessimist and too stubborn call Congress together and lead America in stopping this insanity. His contribution to this solution is to gripe and blame those who see there is a way to solve this problem, if we only work together!

He should be removed from office as fast as possible for placing his personal interests above the people's safety!
