Lovely, Mary. I just sent to a friend who is wintering inside too. Soon the ICE will melt. In other ways too! Stay warm as you can, and thank you for the art and poetry and contemplation.
Now just what makes him a bad bunny? Seems like I would call my group furious rabbit or something a bit mo tuff. But Then I remember the 50s when Elvis and Pat had it out for the teen mind - just saying. As always enjoyed reading you.
When I saw "The Immeasurable Cold, I immediately thought of Minneapolis, which is never far from my mind. I appreciate Mary Oliver, but I keep thinking what it must be like to be outdoors in Minneapolis every day, into the night, as I sit here in California. Art is soul soothing, mind expanding, but still Minneapolis intrudes! Minneapolis is Cold!
Thank God for Art, whether paintings, music, literature…and yes winter too, that takes us to a quiet inner place where we are reminded what is truly beautiful and inspiring in our complicated world.
I mourn that life has landed you in this pressure cooker.
I have often felt there was a gentle soul beneath the strenght you have had to find to face these last few years in particular. You have the gentle soul of a poet who has had to become a warrior.
Congratulations on your and Rhona's marriage. Long may you have love and beauty in your life. May you never lose hope. 🤗💞
Once I realized how the coin-fed floodlight worked and how much they cost, I cut way back on using them and turned my money to buying postcards from the gift shops. Excellent photos, well-lit and taken by professional photographers with the best equipment. After seeing the items in person at least once.
I’ve been reading you for years and I’ve appreciated your insight! But very recently, I’ve been happy to see an inside view. Your columns have always been very informative! But now I get a sense of who you really are, and I really like that! I’m happy for your happiness and I’m very grateful for your insight!
We can always find beauty, if our eyes and hearts are open.
I fell in love with Florence the moment my husband and I entered the city in a car, driving through what we quickly found out was an off-limits restricted zone. Yikes. It was part of a trip around the northern half of Italy in 2024 (a clockwise journey, starting and ending in Milan). We stayed around the corner from one of the last four wine windows in the city. I felt strangely at home from the beginning. A city, dripping with so much history and beauty brought me to tears.

Going from watching Bad Bunny to looking at paintings of Ghirlandaio…it’s a pretty good Sunday night.
Pamela, I just did the same!
Pretty wild, right?

Thank you for the poetry and artistry. We need both!

Thanks for this precious reminder Mary.
This message of yours I appreciate greatly Mary, these marvellous places I once knew so well, my thanks to you for reminding me.
It was a treat to get this personal glimpse, Mary. Thank you.
Firenze my adopted home city. Sister city to Philadelphia
I live just outside Philly, in North Wilmington (big difference between Wilm. and North Wilmington)!
I took Italian in school but somehow can’t speak a word. I hope to be able to travel to Italy one day.
Simply beautiful.

Mary Oliver has always been a go-to in times of stress and in these dark heartcold times all art has been a comfort. So much work ahead.
Grazie, Mary. ❤️

Beautiful Mary. Thank you for sharing; and for all you do.
Beautifully said, Mary. Thank you.
