One wonders how low the Trump administration can sink - literally. One wonders where is Congress, where is the oversite required for appropriating funds and for vetting plans for overhaul of the PEOPLE's monuments, buildings, parks in Washington D.C., funded by tax payers. This is another corrupt and catastrophic consequence of a rogue executive branch of government.

TP, I guess if you're god as Baby Donnie thinks he is, you don't need to clear anything with anyone and Trump proves it regularly. The Republicans and a few Democrats in Congress are OK with it too. They have permitted a war for nothing and which we lost, the destruction of the East Wing, illegal tariffs, cutting already-designated funds, shutting down a hugely important medical service (US-AID), nixed our allies and tried to court our adversaries, OKayed Israel's attempted genocide of the Palestinian people, ignored our Constitution regularly, and on and on nearly every day adding to the evil! I know it will be hard to stop "god," but it has to be done!

This is an eloquent work of art Mary! Do you think when he looks into the pool he finds his own reflection? Don’t think so!! How preposterous this pompous Buffoon is!!

Rhonda Adloo's avatar

He is a narcissist just like the fellow in mythology who admired his reflection in the still water. What happened to Narcissus should definitely happen to him.

Velovixen's avatar

Trump makes Narcissus seem like Harriet Tubman.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Stasia, heck Baby Donnie won't go to the pool. He did it once like he was in a military parade or something and that was enough. He had to move on to where he can start blaming others for his own stupidity and utter incompetence.

Well said Ruth!💕💕

Mary, a question…not interested in starting a kerfluffle in comments, but could Donald’s quick visit to Camp David have anything to do with his wanting to make a phone call away from staff and press?

As to the reflecting pool, even a non-expert in pool linings would know, simply by observation, that a pool lining that does not extend up the sides of the pool would not hold to the bottom only.

Some of the photographs of the liner/paint debris seem to be faded or bleached in places. That would be a likely outcome of pouring peroxide along the edge of the pool, as numerous videos showed, where the concentration for even a short time would be enough to cause bleaching.

Also, whether it was from the massive algae bloom concentration resulting from untreated river water being heated in that shallow pool, or the peroxide poured into the pool, the death of wildlife was predictable. The entire project was folly. Expensive, stupid, folly. At several levels.

The primary vandal in this particular folly is djt, with advance efforts provided by musk by relieving the parks department of any staff with a modicum of knowledge about algae and/or chemistry.

Apparently they didn’t even use a primer on the natural stone bottom.correction: the concrete bottom.

Bruce Kopetz's avatar

I believe the original '1920s bottom material was replaced with poured concrete during its last major restoration. It is not natural stone. Look how much U.S. citizens have learned about this D.C. monument thanks to the POSOTUS's fuckup!

ConnieW's avatar

Thank you, Bruce. I looked it up, and you are correct. The bottom is concrete now. Accuracy matters, now more than ever.

Paula Taylor's avatar

A lesson I had no interest in learning!

David Ronnow's avatar

For 14 million dollars and you want primer too?!

Randy S. Eisenberg's avatar

Let’s hope the restoration of all of these desecrations will be entirely funded by the impounded assets of the crime family.

(I’m never sure if it’s ok to use the T word here😸)

Bruce Kopetz's avatar

Are you saying Diaper Donnie's assets will be impounded at some future time?

Randy S. Eisenberg's avatar

Depends on who you believe. Opinions- especially here- run from one contradict extreme to the other. So, I’m sure someone here thought it could be possible. As if.

Dead ducks in the Reflecting Pool. You don't have to know anything about the ancient form of divination called augury, well-loved by the ancient Romans, to understand the implications for the US's modern Emperor Nero, in combination with his other qualities reminiscent of Capone and Mussolini. As for the Republican Party, if the US was a healthy democracy it would be joining the Federalists and Whigs in the dustbin of history, and not only for its fuhrerprinzip support of Trump though that is by far the most disgraceful, but the US is far from healthy, institutionally as well as morally, and for a long time has only been, at the national level and at the level of many states and municipalities, a democracy in a pro forma sense only. Trump has brought both characteristics out in very sharp as well as frightening relief.

Trump alone can fix it!

Remember that campaign promise?

We don’t need NATO, to work with our allies, make peace with Iran, fix the economy, bring manufacturing back home, improve our standard of living, we have Trump to do everything for us PRAISE THE LORD!

Just look at the reflecting pool to see how well he can fix everything!

The one thing Trump cannot do is take responsibility for all his failures. He’s already setting up JD Vance to take the fall for the Iran fiasco.

Great question - where’s Congress? Apparently on an extended vacation. Where’s SCOTUS? Controlled by fascists. Why doesn’t someone stand up to stop the plunder?

The bully Trump needs bullying! 🥊

MAGAts will not listen to facts about biology, heat, condition of water pipes, photosynthesis, or anything sounds even vaguely science-y. They prefer the fairy tales their master tells them. Listening to anything else would require them to think and reason. They do not wish to do that. They prefer to believe the lies that will enable them to hate their fellow human beings and give them excuses to insult, persecute, assault, or murder them. I don't know how you get a MAGAt to face reality. They prefer blinders.

And speaking of spending $14 million for something we didn't/don't need, I asked Google to find appropriate data & do a calculation. Here are the result:

(I've added the asterisks and all caps)

"With $14,000,000, US taxpayers would be able to fund approximately 3,111,111 to 4,530,744 **SCHOOL LUNCHES**, depending on the exact cost per meal."

-- and --

"... $14,000,000 would feed between 17,284 and 25,171 **STUDENTS** for an entire standard 180-day school **YEAR**."

There was a time when my acquaintances on Facebook (Can't really say "friends" because the majority of them I've only known since I joined Facebook around 2009.) who are MAGAs would routinely brag about the Dozing Diaper Donald's accomplishments, that thank God he brought the country back from the brink of being extinct. Where would we be without this great, strong, manly man? Lately, I haven't seen too much bragging as much as I've seen MAGAs coming up with excuses about his decreasing mental capacity, idiotic comments and actions. Of course, then comes the "What about Sleepy Joe Biden?" replies. Not much for them to brag about these days given his approval rating around 35% and the fact that his comments and behavior of those of a man not well. He looked like a buffoon on the world stage. He thought he could lie about the Italian Prime Minister "begging" him to take a photo with her and get away with it. You know, like the lying he does all day, every day since he took office. He immediately found out that's not going to work with people who don't have to kiss his ass. She didn't use the word "lie" but said just about every word that meant lie to describe his actions.

I can’t agree more with your writing. Science. Even if it was vandals (it wasn’t), algae needs the right environment in which to proliferate. If even an ounce of algae was left behind during the cleaning/painting, given the lack of science that was used to upgrade reflecting pool (it didn’t need renovating), that ounce would be super happy with its new digs.

Just a long line of failed upgrades…

Sounds about right.

I’m so upset about the ducks. He’s killing everything and it’s NOT OK. Great write up and video on this, Mary❤️

They could have put grass carp in there to eat the algae as a temporary fix.

Many Federal public servants and appointees were mown down by the Doge fiasco. They would have been the talented folks who, previous to this Administration, handled these very issues. None of the replacements (who thinks any were replaced?) lift a finger to either perform their duties or even find out what their duties are.

I would be willing to bet they walk around looking at their phones all day, play games on their computers and chat with whoever is willing to talk to them. If they were hired or appointed by anyone in this administration they are as incompetent as the Big Boss. I'm crying for our country.

Donald looks into the Reflecting Pool and sees himself, just like Greek mythology.

“The character of Narcissus is the origin of the term narcissism, a self-centered personality style. This quality in extreme contributes to the definition of narcissistic personality disorder, a psychiatric condition marked by grandiosity, excessive need for attention and admiration, and an impaired ability to empathize.” —Wikipedia
